Emily Prentiss always wanted to find new ways to rebel against her mother. She resented the fact that work was constantly seen as more important than her, so had resorted to doing anything imaginable to get her mother's attention.
These things included smoking, drinking, staying out too late and always being with boys. Despite the young brunette's hardest attempts to maintain the focus of her mother, she was unsuccessful, which meant a new plan of action was needed and this one needed to be bigger and better than the last. Which is why when Emily found herself at yet another party, she decided to switch things up a little bit, and instead of getting with another guy, she had her eyes on a girl she found quite attractive and knew wasn't straight.
Dara.
Every time Emily was with a boy, she always felt there was something more that she desired, however she was unable to put her finger on it. She knew that she often found both male and female celebrities attractive, however held a firm belief that this attraction was nothing more than superficial.
As the night progressed and the younger Prentiss continued to drink, she started to get closer to Dara. They were dancing and drinking together. The brunette and the redhead had known eachother for a few years, and had a fair bit in common, however had gradually grown apart due to factors out of their control. But this night, this night reversed all of that.
When things started to slow down, Emily and Dara vanished upstairs together. They found themselves lying on the bed holding hands, exchanging their favourite memories from times spent together. Emily felt warm inside, almost like a glimmer of hope. She felt wanted, for the first time in a long while.
Taking a deep breath, she went for it.
The young brunette pressed a tentative kiss to the redhead's lips, and was taken aback when she felt this being reciprocated. The pair held hands, fingers interlocked, and exchanged the sweetest kiss Emily had ever known.
Fireworks. Fireworks in the heart of Emily Prentiss.
The warm feeling of hope spread throughout her, heating her blood and blossoming into a feeling of pure ecstasy.
This. This was it.
This was what Emily Prentiss had been missing for so long.
And so the night went on. The girls lying comfortably in the arms of one another, in either a perfect silence or quiet conversation. They stayed up to the early hours of the morning, just enjoying each others company, and eventually fell asleep with their legs entangled and their bodies touching.
When Emily brought Dara home, her mother didn't seem all that bothered by it, perhaps she knew this about Emily before she knew herself. The ambassador only said "whatever makes you happy" and for Emily that was enough.
For the first time, it wasn't about grabbing the ambassador's attention, it was about love and happiness.
Something she finally had.
