(A:N: So, I just finished this game, the nightmare of a clicker still is fresh in my mind when I try to sleep. XD Alex: Really though, they had to be the most nightmarish thing in the game! Me: So, I was thinking over the amazing character known as Ellie, and wondered, 'Isn't Ellie afraid that she may not be immune, but her body is holding off the virus?' Alex: And 'Is she afraid that she will turn when Joel is around?' Me: So, this kinda popped into my head. XD I hope you enjoy my first zombie and The Last of Us fanfic! This takes place during the game, before Joel got hurt. You decide when! Alex, DISCLAIMERS! Alex: THE real assistant doesn't own The Last of Us! The game wouldn't have been as good as it was if she did!)
Ellie, no matter how many times she's been in it, hated the dark. Maybe it was the fear of a clicker sneaking up behind her, or maybe a runner will catch her? She always pushed these thoughts aside, never wanting to show her fear, never in front of Joel. Especially not in front of Joel, she didn't want to come off as a scared weakling in front of him. This time was different though. She woke up, and instead of seeing the warm sunlight radiating into the cabin, she was in a pitch black room. She tried swallowing her slight whimpers as she walked around, trying not to trip over something. If this didn't set her off, her breathing sounded heavier, as if she just ran miles without stopping. Her back also felt lighter, probably from her backpack off her back.
(God dammit! I told Joel not to take my backpack off while I sleep! Or at least when it's not uncomfortable...)
She stopped on that thought, finally noticing a bigger problem then her backpack.
(Oh god, where the fuck is Joel?!)
Ellie frantically looked around before seeing the door, which was haphazardly opened up, looking as if it was about to fall off its hinges. Ellie approached the door with caution. When she was close enough, she slightly pushed the door open, causing it to swing a bit open before stopping, making a loud screech. Ellie didn't cover her ears, she was now worried about the... Things, that could become attracted by the sudden noise. She used her ears to listen to her surroundings, leaning her head slightly outside the door.
(I don't hear anything...)
She slowly reached into her left pocket, careful not to making any slight noises.
(Why doesn't that settle my damn nerves at all?)
Ellie felt nothing but cloth as she reached into her pocket. She frowned slightly.
(God dammit...)
She sighed before slightly grabbing the door with her right arm, praying to god that she wouldn't attract anything. She sighed slightly before pushing the door open with all her might. Making the most godawful sound she ever heard in her life. She quickly examined her surroundings before ducking behind the closest barrier. Which was some kind of vehicle part. She listened to her surroundings, waiting to hear that god awful clicking, or on some occasions, panting. She waited and waited for what seemed like minutes before she stood back up. Looking around with a confused look on her face. She put her hands to her mouth, opening her mouth to yell out Joel's name. All that came out though was a startled, growling noise.
(What the!?)
"Hey, I heard one over here!" Ellie ducked back behind the vehicle part. Watching closely as one man walked into the area she was in. The man held a shogun, along with a big, green backpack. On his body was a pair of jeans with a checkred, green shirt. His face, somehow though, was covered by a thick layer of darkness. The man looked around the area, aiming his gun in all directions, while Ellie tried to not make any slight noises. She scooted to the her right when the man was coming to her left. Then she heard it. *clank!* The man turned towards the noise, seeing a worried Ellie lying on the ground, cursing mentally in her head.
(How could I not see the god damn can!? Oh god...)
Ellie slowly got up, rubbing her head, before looking towards the man. The man had his gun to his side, and Ellie could see his mouth, which was a tad bit open. The man looked limp, as if he was a tad bit schocked. The man reached a hand out towards her, "E-Ellie..?" A part of her wanted to scream out, to demand who this person was. Another half of her though, was whispering in her mind. She tried ignoring them by slowly getting up. When she was on her knees, the voice came back, full force. Ellie fell to her knees, clutching her head, deep, growling noises coming out of her throat. The man put the gun down, running over to her. "Ellie! Ellie, snap out of it!" Then she looked at the man, whose face was suddenly clear of darkness.
(Joel..?)
It was then that Ellie noticed what the voice was saying, chanting it even.
(Kill him! Kill him! KILL HIM!)
Ellie attempted to push down the voice, but only gained little energy. For the first time since she woke up, she spoke. "J-Joel... Get, away..." Then, it was lunacy. Joel turned around fast, but not as fast as Ellie. She jumped up, her eyes bllodshot, on Joel's back. Wrapping her arm arpund his neck. He gripped her arm, trying to pry it off, but almost got bit in the process. Then, slowly, he began to slow down. Ellie then did the one thing she never wanted to do.
She bit him, ripping his neck out. When that happened, Joel fell to the ground, like a puppet with its strings cut, with a dull *thump*. Ellie looked down at the body for a few seconds with bloodshot eyes. Slowly though, her eyes turned back to their natural color. She looked down slowly at Joel's corpse, not wanting to believe that she did this. She gripped her head with her hands.
(No, I didn't do this. Joel isn't dead...)
It was then that she noticed a water puddle next to her feet. Her reflection looked normal enough, only her eyes looked more frantic. Her skin looked more decayed then they used to be, and her mouth was stained with crimson. She fell to her knees, and did the only thing she could do.
She screamed.
Joel awoke to the sound of screaming. On instinct, he grabbed the gun next to his sleeping bag, and looked around. "The bloody hell..." When Joel saw no one was in danger, he set the gun down next to his bed.
(What the hell was that?)
He stood up, and started walking over to Ellie's room. Which was just a couch castle that she made to block out the light. He tried swallowing down the memories of when his daughter did this, then shoot him with a Nerf gun. Starting an all out... Joel smacked his forehead.
(Stop it, you're going to go into mourning again!)
He grabbed the blanket covering the front of the castle and swiped it aside. What he saw deeply troubled him. Ellie was thrashing around, seeming as if she was trying to hit something that's not there. Her screams from this distance were defining. Joel resisted trying to cover his ears, and crawled over to Ellie. "Ellie... Ellie, wake up..." He grabbed her shoulders and shook her slightly. "Ellie, you need to get up..." Without warning, Ellie threw a fist, connecting with Joel's face. Joel covered his bruised nose. "What the!" At that point Ellie woke up, quickly getting into a sitting position. She looked around the room before her eyes landed on Joel. Joel could see her wild, fearful eyes, looking around the room frantically. Joel reached towards Ellie with his other hand. "Hey kid, you alright?" Ellie scooted away from it, curling into a ball in the process. Joel watched with a surprised look on his face, then to a strict one. He now knew something was wrong with the girl. He sighed, dusting the spot he was sitting on and got comfy. "So Ellie..." Ellie seemed to flinch when she heard her name come out of his mouth. He only stared as she shivered, curled up in the closest corner. Her eyes looking everywhere but at him. He sighed once again, leaning forward towards her. "Hey!" He snapped his fingers in front of her face, instantly grabbing her attention. "Hey, whatever happened in your dream... It never really happened, alright?" Ellie looked at him, a mixture of confusion and shock on her face. Then she did the last thing he expected her to do. She jumped up, and hugged him, crying softly into his shoulder. Joel, at first, was too shocked to do anything. Then he slowly hugged her back. After awhile, Joel heard a faint whisper. "Don't you tell anybody about his..." Joel only laughed, nodding slightly as he did so. "Of course I won't... Of course I won't..."
(A:N: I know right? Usually different then most stuff I write. XD Well, R&R, and remember, your flames warm my family!)
