Gerry reached into his wardrobe to pick out a tie for the day, when something coloured and just hidden under the bed, caught his eye. He immediately abandoned his tie search and instead bent down to see what the object under his bed was. The hairband in his hand was now a frequent find, he still wasn't sure how they stayed so well hidden, but every so often he'd find one in his room, they were the only proof that Sandra Pullman had been in their before. At one point, she'd practically lived there with him and that's why there were hair ties that kept appearing, she'd been the kind of person who tied their hair up before going to sleep and then took it down in the morning, only hairbands are one of those things that seem to get up and walk about, and are a nightmare to find.
Sandra had moved to France just under 3 months ago and had split up with Gerry a month before hand due to frequent arguments. They'd both struggled for the next month before Sandra announced that she was leaving, Gerry had only heard from her twice in that time, once to say she'd arrived safely and that she'd moved into Max's and again when she'd heard a name come up in her case that she recognised from a UCOS case and text Gerry to ask him.
He'd be lying if he said he didn't miss her, but no longer did he get random waves of grief at her loss from his life, instead he now felt tsunamis of the grief whenever there was a slight reminder, everyone had always said that it would get easier but as it was getting harder, it seemed like a false statement. He'd loved Sandra, he'd fallen for her in a way that he'd never fallen for anyone before, in a way that made the way that he'd fallen in love before look so weak. They'd known each other for far too long and were to similar to ever sustain a relationship, so a few months was all they had. The decision to end things had been a mutual one, they'd always have their love but they couldn't act on it, it was better to be happy and love each other from a far then to end up hurting each other, at least that's what they'd decided. Arguments had been common throughout their relationship, with both of them being such passionate people, it couldn't not have been a factor. Gerry lay back onto his bed and contemplated ringing Sandra, somewhere deep down he knew he couldn't though, if he did he'd say something and they'd end up pushing each other until they decided to get back together, which wouldn't have been good for anyone.
One day he hoped that the feeling of missing her wouldn't be quite so strong and that the pain would one day not be so raw, but until then he'd have to put up with the occasional tsunami that rippled through his brain and throughout his body.
