"It's like substituting fat for butter. Different substance, same concept." Foaly spoke quickly, his voice positively thrumming with excitement.
Holly rolled her eyes. Foaly had been working on a way to stop Butler's premature aging, or at least slow it down. He had come to the conclusion that the growth hormones in fairies would aid this process. It had taken him nearly a month of hard work and rigorous research in able to duplicate said hormones into a human safe form. After several weeks of scanning, x-raying, poking, and prodding, today was the day Butler would, theoretically, become younger.
He sat on a silver examination table, clad in a hospital gown. Around him were Holly, Mulch, Juliet, and Artemis. Juliet looked terrified, Artemis' expression was blank, but swimming, and both Holly and Mulch looked bored. Butler wondered just how often the two were drug into Foaly's excited rambles.
"Are you sure this is safe, Foaly? I mean, you haven't even tested it." Juliet's voice shook.
"It'll be fine, Juliet. Trust him; he knows what he's doing." If anyone caught the slight crack in Holly's voice, they didn't address it.
"Yeah. Besides," Mulch said, gesturing at the brute with a hairy hand, "It's not like he could get much worse."
Juliet growled.
"Alright, I'm gonna draw some blood real quick." Foaly lifted a rather large needle from the counter behind him. An audible gulp was heard.
Artemis opened his mouth, "Is that really necessary?"
Foaly nodded, "Yes. In order to see if it's really working, I'll need to compare his blood taken before the test to the blood taken after the test."
"Is that a problem?"
Artemis shook his head, looking paler than usual, "No, it's fine. Do what you need to, Foaly."
Butler grunted as the needle pierced his skin, slicing into the lower lobe of his brain. Foaly pulled back on the plunger. A dark crimson red liquid began to fill the glass tube. When it was full of Butler's blood, all 30 cc's worth, Foaly retracted the needle and held it up for all to see.
"And here you have a human specimen. One hundred percent, pure homosapien-!"
"Nng."
A loud thud echoed through the room. Foaly looked down.
"….. Did he just faint?"
Holly, Mulch and Juliet all leaned over Artemis' now unconscious form.
Holly peeled back his eyelid, revealing the whites of his eyes.
"Yeah. Yeah I think he did."
