Author's Notes: Written for Journey Through Hogwarts Challenge.
Prompt: The Letter, a) write about a surprise, 200 words or less.
She never gets letters in the post. Not like this. She turns the stiff envelope over in her hand, noting the drippy red seal on the back, the emerald-green ink on the front. Whoever it is even knows her bedroom is the last room on the left, upstairs, and isn't that more than a bit creepy! For a moment, she wonders if she should show it to her parents first.
But curiousity gets the best of her, as it always does, and she tears into its contents with eager, ink-stained fingers.
Dear Miss Granger,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...
She can't keep reading, it all seems too mad! As if magic was real! She shoves the paper roughly back into its envelope, barely noticing the second folded sheet (what does it matter, anyway?).
"What is it, dear?" her mum comes through the door, wisteria trailing in her wake.
"Nothing," she says, her shoulders slumped. "Just a joke."
It isn't until tomorrow she discovers how wrong she was.
