All That Is Left
A/N: Don't hate on me. I didn't know what to call the story. Screw titles. Haha! Anyway, enjoy this little one-shot!

Daryl stormed into the prison. Everyone looked at him as he entered, and wondered what was wrong with him. He didn't care about anyone right now. He hid away in a cell near his perch, and silently let the tears flow. He couldn't get the image of his brother out of his mind. Never did he think he would see his own brother as one of them. There were no bites on him either, so only one person could have done that. The Governor. That sick fuck was going to get what he deserved. He heard soft footsteps coming up the stairs, and he hid his face in the pillow.
Carol knocked on the cell door to indicate her presence. When Daryl didn't look up from the pillow, she slowly walked in the room. She knew something was seriously wrong. "Daryl?" She spoke softly, and sat down on the bed. "What happened?"
Daryl sighed and tried to stop himself from crying. "Merle..." Was all he could choke out before crying again. Why did it have to Merle?
"What about him?" Carol asked. She was very worried for him right now. Nothing had ever brought the Dixon to tears.
"He... The Governor... Merle was one of them... I had to..." Daryl was trying so hard to be strong. He couldn't help but cry. Merle was all Daryl had, and now he was gone. As much of a pain Merle was, he didn't deserve to die. He was getting better, Daryl knew. If he had just stayed at the prison, none of this would've happened.
Carol placed a hand over her mouth. If she heard him correctly, Merle was gone. It took her a moment to process this. Merle had become a walker because The Governor had killed him, and Daryl had to kill his own brother. She couldn't imagine the pain that must have brought him. She knew what losing the one closest to you was like, but she didn't have to kill Sophia. She then carefully placed a hand on his shoulder.
Daryl knew Carol was trying her best to help him calm down, but he couldn't. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close, crying quietly into her chest.
Carol was a little surprised when Daryl grabbed her. It didn't take long for her to wrap her arms around him. She let him cry. He needed it. Right now, she didn't need to say anything, all she needed to do was let him cry and work through his emotions.
Daryl finally wiped away his tears and let her go. There was one person in that prison who wouldn't judge him, and it was Carol. "Thanks..." He said quietly.
Carol smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. "No trouble. I know what you went through must've been difficult. I can only imagine. But you need to know, I'm here for you." Carol lightly kissed him on the cheek. She hadn't done that in a long while.
Daryl gave her a sad smile. "I'm glad I have you Carol." He thought he was alone. He thought since Merle was gone, he had no one left. But he had forgotten about Carol. It wasn't until she came to comfort him that he realized, he still had one good thing left in the world, and it was her.
"And you'll always have me Daryl." Carol smiled and brought him into a hug. He needed to know he would never be alone. She would always be there for him whenever he needed her. She would always be there to care for him. She would always be there to love him.
A/N: I'm still traumatized by the episode by the way. Anyway, hope you enjoyed this one-shot! R&R lovelies!
