Dear Akari Shinohara,
How are you doing? This is my first letter to you since I moved to Kagoshima.
Tanegashima is the name of the island I live on in the Kagoshima Prefecture; it is peaceful and quiet, compared to the busyness of Tokyo. The winters here are more temperate compared to Tokyo, and even more so to where you live. I can get away with just wearing a jacket outdoors most of the time, and it only snows a few times a year.
Although Tanegashima is a small island, there's a spaceport here on the south-eastern end of the island. In fact, it is the primary spaceport of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. It reminds me of the book on radio astronomy we read back in Tokyo. The Agency said they will launch a spacecraft that creates SPACE VLBI observations on Pulsars from here in a few years time. The spacecraft will then fly into deep space, searching for answers to put into books like the one we read so long ago.
Hope you are enjoying your winter in Tochigi; I still remember how cold it was.
From,
Takaki Tohno
A/N: This is my first try at a 5 Centimeters per Second fanfic; it's one of my favourite movies of all times. This will be a collection of letters/messages (as cell phones become more widely used in the 5cm timeline) Takaki left unsent to Akari. I'm keeping them short, because he never really meant to send these anyway, and when it gets to the text messages, you can't write too much on a phone anyway. Anyway, I hope you liked it, and reviews are always welcome, especially if they include suggestions and how I can improve!
