I Don't Mean To
A/N: This, my first Lord of the Rings fanfic, is dedicated to my sister with whom I discovered the wonderful world of The Lord of the Rings. Happy Birthday!!!! It's been a fun 21 years:)
Wet. Cold.
"Don't you lose him, Samwise Gamgee."
Falling. Sinking.
"Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee."
Heavy. Dark.
"Frodo has a long and difficult road ahead, a difficult burden to bear. He needs your help more than he's ever needed it before."
No air. No sound.
"So don't you lose him. Don't you leave him."
Fear. Failure.
"The fate of us all may very well rest with him."
Hands clasp. Rising.
"I promise, Mister Gandalf, sir. I'll never lose him. I'll never leave his side. Wherever he goes I'll go. I'll protect him."
Air. Sunlight.
"Don't you leave him, Samwise Gamgee."
Frodo. Hope.
I don't mean to. I don't mean to.
The End
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the book): "`If you don't come back sir, then I shan't that's for certain,' said Sam. `Don't you leave him,' they said to me. 'Leave him!' I said. `I never mean to. I am going with him if he climbs to the Moon, and if any of those black Riders try to stop him, they'll have Sam Gamgee to reckon with.'"
