A/N: Hi! I'm writing again...
So this one is loosely based on Call Me by Your Name and I picked Zutara because it's probably my favorite pairing.
Uh... enjoy! And be sure to review! Be kind please!
Katara didn't get why her dad had to host exchange students every year.
"It's a chance to learn about other places! We aren't the only ones in the world Katara!" he said emphatically everytime she complained.
Even though past experiences had been… less than pleasant, Hakoda still insisted on bringing in different students from the Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads annually.
Maybe it was to help fill the hole her mother had left when she died? Who knew? So Katara didn't push it much further than that.
Neither did her brother Sokka. He usually had a better time than she did anyway, befriending the students easily with his bad jokes and casual attitude. Katara was fine with that. More time for herself and people she actually liked.
They were going to the airport at the beginning of August, to give their student time to settle in before starting the school year.
When Katara and Sokka had asked who their guest was Hakoda smiled and said "Just a relative of an old friend. See if you can try to figure it out yourself."
Which was a bit of a surprise. Usually he would provide them with a bit of background on the student, so Katara and Sokka could put their heads together and discuss how to welcome them and speculate whether or not they killed cats for fun. (So far they didn't. Which was good.)
And that's why they were walking into the airport with only a sign and a vague idea of who they were picking up.
"Okay guys. I'm doing this as a favor to someone, so be nice." Hakoda said, his eyes scanning the crowd of strangers who all looked the same, with their harried expressions and frantic walking pace.
"When have we not been nice Dad?" Sokka said, adjusting the earbuds which were constantly in his ears, even when he wasn't listening to anything. Sokka thought they made him look cool. Katara thought they made him look stupid.
"That was more for your sister than you."
"Okay, she literally never stopped talking. Why should I have been nice to her?" Katara scoffed.
"She was our guest Katara."
"Oh, are we talking about Ty Lee now?" Sokka said with mild interest.
Ty Lee was a bubbly gymnast from the Fire Nation who liked showing everyone pictures of her Fire Nation friends and talking about how great life was there. Sokka was immediately smitten with her. Unfortunately, she only had eyes for Jet.
Katara didn't feel like crying anymore whenever she thought about them, but her jaw still clenched and her stomach still felt as though it had been turned to iron.
She hadn't told anyone the real reason Jet and her had broken up. Not her father, not her brother, not even her best friend Toph. She had just told them that they were very different people, and neglected to mention that he was a lying bastard. That was all.
Thankfully, Ty Lee and Jet' relationship hadn't lasted long.
"So can you tell us who our guest is now, Dad?" Katara asked, trying to sound as normal as possible.
"I see him! He's right over there." Hakoda raised one arm and pointed toward a teenaged boy with bangs and a pink scar covering the left half of his face.
"He looks slightly familiar…" Sokka muttered, brows creasing as he tried to think of who he might be.
Katara didn't say anything. She knew exactly who he was. How many times had Ty Lee showed her pictures of her Fire Nation friends? Katara could probably say their names in her sleep. Her suspicions were only confirmed when…
Her father held up the sign and exclaimed, "Zuko! How's your uncle doing?"
A/N: Wow! You got though it. Thank you so much for reading (please review!). I promise, my writing will get better as we go. Thanks again!
