It certainly looks like it

Pompt [Sea Devil week 2, Day 1]: Mistaken for a couple

It was a tacit rule valid everywhere that, whenever something bad happened, the first person to be blamed was the new arrived. That was precisely what was happening now that Pongo was strangely missing and basically everyone in town seemed for once to agree in wanting that lovely dog back. After all, the fact that the new arrived was a villain and had a particular love for furs was not an extenuating circumstance at all.

"Where is she? Where is your girlfriend?"

Ursula nearly choked on her coffee as soon as Emma Swan appeared in front of her almost shouting that question. Blinking a few times, she recovered quick enough from the startle and then just shrugged slightly.

"Which girlfriend? I don't know what are you talking about…" Because she honestly didn't.

But the Savior just raised an eyebrow with a small incredulous smirk. "What do you mean with "which girlfriend"? How many girlfriends do you have now, sea witch? Of course I mean Cruella…"

However, if that assumption seemed obvious to the blonde woman, it was not so for Ursula who now just stared wide eyed at her and then suddenly looked down for a moment. She was so clearly taken aback just by the thought, that this time she did not have the quickness to deny nor even covering her too revealing reaction. At least, she was not drinking coffee now.

"We are not together" she eventually said in a low but firm voice. And there was a subtle bitter trace in it too.

It was Emma's turn to be embarassed now and that was all because she herself had caused embarassment in the first place. It was not because she had misunderstood, but on the contrary because she had the feeling that she had understood all too well – maybe even better than Ursula herself. But on the other hand, which was her right to inquire about someone's personal life? 'Maybe because you don't have an actual love life of your own' a little well-known voice in her head answered straight back and it was not the first time, but she chose to ignore it one time more.

"Well, it certainly looks like it" she just decided to comment in the end, unsure if it was whether a way to justify herself or to give a hope to the clearly in love woman in front of her.

Whichever was the true intention though, Ursula didn't take it in the best way possible and instead felt even more attacked. So, as naturally as it was for an animal like she was in part, she felt the urge to defend herself and defending herself could only mean attack as well. Her now narrow eyes and the small joyless smile on her lips only anticipated of a second her words.

"Let me tell you something, Savior, implying things that are not real is your way of investigating, then I guess you are not a good sheriff… Maybe you could ask your girlfriend for help"

Miss Swan genuinely frowned before she let out a forced very small chuckle. She was quicker to react than Ursula had been just a couple of minutes before, but she was showing a certain determined reaction as well.

"Regina, I mean Regina"

"We are not together!" Emma exclaimed quickly and firmly. Too quickly and too firmly, actually.

But despite that protest, Ursula's smile only grew. "Well, it certainly looks like it"
