Bones' POV
Having never met her before, he could already recognize so many things. From the confident way she held herself, only one movement away from devastating lethality. To the haunted, broken, yet scarily defiant glint in her eyes. Right down to the blunt, slightly teasing lilt to her voice. So many things about her screamed familiarity to him, but, for whatever reason, he couldn't tell you why.
Until she said that phrase.
Then it all fell into place.
"I don't believe in no-win scenarios. I can't believe in them."
She knew the Captain.
This woman really and truly knew him. Not in passing. Not in, "Oh, that's James Kirk, son of-." Not even as, "Yeah, I knew Jim-boy growing up in-." No. She knew him, understood him. Probably better than Bones himself. He may have known the details of Jim's past but she understood it, was part of it.
The whole crew, and more, knew of Jim's aversion to "no-win scenarios." But only Bones (and this woman) had heard him sat those exact words in that same stubborn, defiant, unyielding (desperate) tone of voice. The tone that contained secrets and pain and darkness others could never comprehend. Those words…
"I don't believe in no-win scenarios. I can't believe in them."
She'd been there with him.
She was one of the Nine.
The Tarsus Nine.
…
Oh, God.
A/N
So, here's the deal. This just kind of popped into my head randomly, I wrote it down, and WHAM! here it appears on FF. Not quite sure how that happened. I have an idea of where this could go if enough people think i should keep going (or, y'know, if anyone does). Let me know what you think and you will have my eternal thanks...or just maybe a lot of thanks, eternal is a bit much (please please please).
PS; I do not own Star Trek or anything you recognize. My knowledge of the universe come from the most recent movie and FF so my apologies in advance for anything that I get wrong (shit happens, sorry).
Hope you enjoyed it!
