Water rippled around the legs of the girl as her toes hung limp from her feet beneath the surface. Though in a bikini, only the girl's legs were even partially wet. Her eyes sat with a blank gaze directed to the floor of the pool. The feint sounds of splashing could be scarcely made out by the girl as her team swam happily in the center. Despite being on duty as Gym Leader, the girl's attention was far more focused on the phone sitting on a lounge table. This was her daily ritual, to do something while having her attention almost entirely divided to her phone. It was almost entirely out of character for her and she knew it, but she was compelled to never have the device far from mind.
Every few seconds the girl would blink obscuring her vision momentarily. She couldn't afford to take her thoughts off of the phone. What if he called and she wasn't there to answer? That was her worst nightmare. She had even lost sleep over the damned device.
Her younger self would chastise her vehemently for even thinking of becoming so entrapped by a boy that her days revolved around waiting for his call. She knew it was sad, pathetic even, but the heart wants what it wants and she wanted him more than anything else in the world. The girl had even stopped traveling altogether just to be easier for him to reach her. Plus, she wasn't thrilled with the prospect of running into him again and meeting whatever new girl he decided to drag along with him.
The last time they had even seen each other had been almost a year and they hadn't talked in months, but she knew better. He was busy. He was always busy. By now he had probably already moved on to another region. She'd just get in the way if she were to chase him down again.
Waiting was her life now; waiting for his call. He had promised to call her again. It was a promise that was almost identical to the one he had made in regard to coming back to see her more often, but she knew better than to expect too much. He was busy. He was always busy.
She loved him, far more than he could ever comprehend. It was clear to the girl that he loved her back. The only problem was that the boy was passionate, even obsessive with several things in his life; if only he were passionate or obsessive with her. She wouldn't mind, the girl would actually welcome the attention.
It was clear to the girl that it may be a long time before she would hear from him again. In that time she could easily move on from him to some other guy, Cerulean City had enough hot guys who she could choose from. From what she heard from her sisters, she was quite the popular item for those boys to fight over. However, faithfulness was the key. It proved to her that the love she had for him was truly special. She knew very well of the kisses he had shared with his other female companions, it wasn't hard to find out. Brock had never skimped out on details about the status of her love's status with other girls. Only now Brock no longer travelled with him, she wouldn't know whether or not he shared another kiss with some other girl. Faithfulness was the key, if she could prove that none of that bothered her then he would choose her over those other girls.
The only problem was that he had to come home to her, come back to where he belonged. Return to his family and true friends; return to her. It was only a matter of time, he couldn't stay away forever. So she would wait, wait until he couldn't stay away any longer.
