Summary: Written for the angst_bingoprompt: Isolation. After what he heard Patrick say, Chad made the decision to stay away from him when he could.
Chad ran as fast as he could away from the nursery, his heart breaking even further. He thought they were good. He thought that by deciding to look after these two children, they were good. That whatever happened to between them when they were alive was now gone. He was obviously wrong.
He found himself in one of the dark corners of the basement and he collapsed on the floor. He began to register the tears falling down his face and he reached up to wipe them away. Even though he suspected that Patrick had stopped loving him a long time ago, it was still painful to hear the truth.
Chad heard footsteps on the stairs and could hear Patrick calling out to him, but Chad didn't answer. For the rest of his existence, he didn't ever want to see Patrick again. Not if he didn't have to.
"Chad? Chad, I know you're down here," Patrick called out. "Please talk to me. Please."
Chad could hear the pain in Patrick voice, but he refused to answer him. Patrick began to walk around the basement, but once he left when he could find Chad. Though Chad suspected that he didn't make much of an effort to look.
Chad managed to pick himself up several hours later and made his way upstairs. He made sure to avoid Patrick at all cost. He found the nursery and grabbed the red crib. He didn't realize he wasn't the only one in the room. Patrick stepped out, startling Chad. "Chad."
Chad refused to look at him and he started to pull the crib out of the room. Patrick walked over and placed his hand over Chad's, stopping him. "Chad, what are you doing?"
"Does it matter?" Chad said, his voice strained from crying. "I don't think you really care what I do. I don't think you've cared in a long time."
"I still care about you Chad."
Anger flared in Chad and he roughly shoved Patrick away. "No you don't! You were planning on leaving! You didn't love me and you probably never have!"
"Chad, I did love you."
"Maybe at one point, but that's all gone now, isn't it?" Chad said. "You came back to me the night we were killed and I thought you still loved me. I thought you wanted to work things out. I believed that we could. But then again, you were probably there to tell me you were leaving me. And now you're stuck with me instead of the twink you actually wanted."
"Chad you misunderstood what I said! Just listen to me, please!"
"No, I'm done listening to you and I would appreciate it if you left me alone."
"Chad.."
"Fuck off Patrick. I'm done holding on to what could have been and I'm done with you. You don't want me anymore anyway, so what's the point in trying?"
Chad could feel the tears coming on once more, but he refused to break down in front of Patrick. He grabbed the crib once more and made his way down to the basement. And this time, Patrick didn't try to stop him.
He made it to the top of the stairs and looked down at the bottom where he and Patrick took their final breathes. Chad had hope that night that Patrick still loved him, but now he knew that it was all a lie. Patrick didn't want him and now, Chad was to spend an eternity alone and unloved.
He shoved the crib down the stairs and watched it break as it hit the bottom. He walked down and made his way to the furnace. The crib represented the hope he had that him and Patrick could be happy once more. Now it was going to burn.
