CHAPTER 1: GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN
This is the first chapter of several I'm working on…Some of this actually happened in real life.
Hope you like it!
Ugh. As the alarm went off, I slowly dragged myself out of bed. Today was the first day of camp. Normally, I wouldn't mind camps. But this camp just happened to be taking place during the nicest week of the summer, and I had to spend the next five days sitting in our school's stuffy auditorium with 100 other kids to prepare for our Confirmation.
I walked over to my closet and began rifling through my clothing options. Just because I didn't want to go, didn't mean I couldn't look cute. I jumped as my phone buzzed on my desk. It was Sarah wondering what the heck I was going to wear. I texted back, telling her that I had no idea and that I would see her in an hour. I finally decided on my denim shorts from American Eagle and a pink plaid blouse with a dark blue cami underneath. I let my curly red locks stay as they were, brushed my teeth, dabbed on some mascara, and headed downstairs to eat.
"Excited?" my mom asked when I walked into the kitchen.
"Oh, yeah… just over joyed."
My mom was the kind of person who always loved to know what their child was up too. Normally I don't mind too much. She's my mom. But on days like today, where I feel like laying and bed and listening to music, it tended to get frustrating.
"Just try to have positive thoughts. It's only until three o' clock and maybe you'll meet some cute guys." She said with a wink.
"Of course mom…whatever. I'm just glad I'll get to see my friends."
"You girls are always together aren't you? Attached at the hip…" she muttered at me.
That's what everybody said. Everyone knew the six girls who made up are little girl gang. We had all known each other since kindergarten, but hadn't really gotten together as friends until 5th grade and now being in 8th called ourselves the Six Chicks…as an inside joke of course.
"Yup mom…it's time to go by the way. Don't wanna be late." I said sarcastically as I popped the last bite of granola in my mouth.

I made my way into the school trying to come up with positives for this week. As usual, I was bombarded by the girls who were already there.
"There you are! So that's what you decided to wear? Good, you'll look super cute for all the hotties here. Maybe one of us will actually score a boyfriend…" Sarah immediately started going into details of all of the cute boys here and there eyes, hair, and everything else. She may be a spazz sometimes but she always can get me to smile on days like these.
"Of course chica…have you picked yours out yet?" I said making my way to the registration table and sticking my name tag on my chest.
"Only five of them. She's been craning that neck of hers ever since we got here." Caitlin replied.
"No I have not!" Sarah retorted.
Michelle, Haley and Hillary just stood there observing the discussion while trying to hold back giggles. We all loved each other like crazy but we had our moments. Sarah and Haley were the tall ones of our group. Sarah Beek was a 5'7 blue eyed, curly brunette and an awesome volleyball player, but she also played basketball and ran cross country and track. Haley Howard was a towering 5'10 brunette with deep chocolate eyes and could pass for a model with her super long legs and size double 0 waiste. She was one of the top runners at our school for track and cross country.
Michelle Hite was the smallest of us. She was only 5'2 with a short chic dark brown hair cut and hazel eyes. She was an incredible dancer and we always loved to experiment dances with her. Hillary Raylor was about 5'5 with light brown hair and hazel eyes. Well not hazel. They were very interesting…almost cat like. But anyway, she was not afraid of a crowd and is in volleyball, basketball, and track.
Caitlin Pley was the most unique one out of all of us. She was 5'4 with a golden brown bob and green eyes. She was the environmentalist and had a tough girl exterior but she was really very sweet. She played volleyball and ran track.
And then there's me. Elizabeth Wilks. My friends just call me Liza. I am about 5'4 with long auburn hair almost down to my waist with hazel eyes. I'm the soccer jock and also run track and ride horses.
"Ok, ok…we all know that Sarah loves to boy scope, but we are at church camp remember? Besides, we need to see what groups we're in" I intervened.
"Oh we already found out. Me, you and Hillary are in a group with some other kids and Sarah and Haley are together and poor Caitlin is all alone with a bunch of strangers" Michelle chirped. We all exchanged sympathetic looks with Caitlin before we were called to go to our group tables.
As everyone arrived at their designated table, I took a look at the kids at mine. There were of course me, Michelle and Hillary, and then there were 6 others. I quickly glanced at there name tags and saw that we had Javi, Kathryn, James, Ryan, Rylie, and Danny. I took note that Danny and Rylie were pretty cute and Ryan was kinda mysterious. Hmmm. This could be fun.

"Okay, now that everyone's in their groups, we can begin. First we are going to do a group ice breaker. I want you all to get to know each others names. Then, I would like you to make a pyramind any way you want. When you're finished with that, choose one member of your groups name and spell it with your bodies." Michelle, Hillary and I all exchanged a sideways glance. Did they always have to make the ice breakers so tacky?
"Ok guys," our group leader Mrs. Garner said enthusiastically, "let's get to work!" Everyone looked around awkwardly. Rylie was the first to break the silence.
"Ok…so first we're supposed to learn each others names right? Let's make a circle and learn 'em."
After we learned each others names, we started to make the pyramid. Of course all the boys, being the gentlemen they were, got down as the base. All the girls just stood between the boys legs and rested our hands on their backs. I was standing with my one hand on each Danny and Ryan's back. I saw Danny look at me sideways and let my hand become lighter. After we were done with our slightly weird pyramid we moved on to spelling Danny's name. Finally, the instructor told us all to take our seats. We shuffled off to our tables and readied ourselves for the lectures to come. After a few minutes I allowed myself to zone out and took a look around me. Danny was to my right with Rylie on his right. I had Mrs. Garner to my left and Michelle and Hillary directly across from me. There were quite a few cute guys here, but none that I thought I would be interested in.
I must have zoned out for quite some time, because by the time I tuned in, we were being dismissed for lunch. I looked over at Michelle and she gave me a look that said "you-better-not-do-that-all-week" all over it. I smiled, got up and went to go meet up with the others.
"Where do you guys wanna sit? We could go to the courtyard, or behind the school, or the playground…"
"How about we go to our window?" replied Sarah.
"Ok…sounds good to me. You guys ok with that?" Caitlin broke off mid-sentence. "Sure, that's good enough for me."
We slowly made our way over to the window we always sit at during the school year, while chatting about random things like whose going out with who, where we're going for vacation, etc, ect. Subconsciously, I looked behind me. That's when I noticed we had two visitors.
"Hey guys…don't look now but it looks like we have some friends." I casually mentioned under my breath. Of course they all looked around at once. I followed their line of vision and noticed that the boys were the two boys, Rylie and Danny from our group, and they had non-chalantly turned their heads away and pretended to be looking at the landscaping. I glanced over at the others and noticed they had smug grins on their faces.
"Sooo? What do you think Sarah? Anything worth getting to know?" I giggled.
"Well…the one on the right…"
"Rylie."
"Yeah him…he's kinda cute, but looks like a player. And the one on the left…"
"Danny."
"Danny, he's cute too I guess. I think he looks really sweet and kinda shy."
"You guys are actually looking for boyfriends? At Confirmation Camp?" Caitin asked incredulously.
"Of course not!"
"But it never hurts to browse…"
"Right on Twin!"
Sarah finished my sentence for me. We called ourselves Twin because we always finished each others sentences or wore the same thing by coincidence. We couldn't look more different, but we definetly had some telepathy goin' on.
"Guys…just pretend we don't know that they are there. Let's see if they follow and maybe we can start a convo." Hillary whispered
We continued on and finally reached our window. When we stopped the boys stopped also and sat a distance away.
"I wonder who they're after?" mused Haley.
"Well it's got to be one of us, since we're in their group. My guess is that they are after Liza and Michelle." Hillary suggested.
"Yeah…maybe you two will finally get a guy!"
"Shut up Sarah. You just broke up with Peter, it's not like you can talk…" Michelle snapped.
"Chillax woman. At least I've had a bf." She said it with sass, but I could see the sadness in her eyes. She really had cared about Peter and was heartbroken when he broke up with her.
"Ok ok…relax. We don't know what's going to happen. But we do know that it's 11:42 and we have to be back by quarter till. So come on chicas."
"Liza, what would we do without you?" Haley questioned.
"You would always be late chica, that's what." I laughed.
We made our way back to the auditorium and took our seats. Rylie and Danny flashed me and Michelle smiles and we exchanged looks after returning the smile. "Alrighty kids, lets get started! Everyone find a partner!" Mrs. Garner said in her annoyingly enthusiastic voice.
"Hey Liza, Michelle! You guys wanna be partners?" Rylie and Danny were the first to call dibs.
"Um…ok sure." I turned to Hillary, "Sorry Hill, but is that ok?"
"Yeah, yeah…go have fun." She said it bitterly, but there was a twinkle in her eye and I knew she was fine with it.
"Thanks chica!"
"Sooo…do you guys have boyfriends?" was the first question out of Rylies mouth.
"Well we know you're not shy." I laughed.
"Just wondering. If your free we were wondering if you maybe wanted to go out…" Danny said shyly.
"How about we get to know each other a little bit first?" suggested Michelle gently.
"Sounds good to us." Rylie responded. Well this could get interesting. It was only the first three hours of Confirmation Camp and we already had potential boyfriends…
