McCoy is a bitter man.
He works very hard at it too – it has managed to keep patients alive while he struggles with spores and strange alien diseases and weapons that dissolve organs, it keeps Jim amused and out of everyone else's hair for twenty minutes and causes no end of entertainment in the ship-wide betting pool (5-1, McCoy vs Uhura).
By this time in his life though, Georgia is history, real dust traded for the star dust that trails past the glass that keeps them safe inside the deathtrap they live in and his little girl's penmanship is loopier now with doodles and diagrams filling in the margins and he and Scotty have shares in the private still that nobody knows about.
(he hates Jim and space and flying and spores and aliens and getting beamed anywhere -)
"Doctor," Chapel's got a sweet smile, makes it easy to sucker punch Jim with another anti-allergen. "Shut up and deal."
