Alek sat alone on the roof, his back pressed against the wall and his head tucked into his jacket to avoid the cool night wind. It had been a long day that had left him feeling even lonelier than usual. His thoughts were filled with the girl who slept peacefully below him and around whom his entire world circled.
Chloe was so naive, too trusting, and frustratingly loyal to the human world. She had made his lifelong duty of protecting the Uniter more complicated than he'd ever thought it would be, and yet, even when riddled with bruises, Alek still didn't regret devoting his entire world to her. She was the most fascinating creature he had ever known and possessed the most wonderful scent to ever caress his nose. Her beauty threatened to steal his breath away every time their eyes met, and the only thing he'd rather spend his time doing than watching over her was holding and kissing her, if ever he got the chance.
One day, he thought, his eyes glittering in the dark shadows. One day, he would get that chance for she'd awaken to the reality of being Mai, know at last that no mere human could ever hold her heart for long, and realize that they were meant to be together. "Alek." His blonde head lifted as he heard her call his name. She was dreaming about him; that had to be a good sign. His lips curved up into a soft smile.
She'd come for him soon, and when she did, he'd be right close to her, waiting to give her the endless, eternal love that was their rightful and shared destiny. He purred happily and settled more deeply into his spot on her roof, still smiling, to wait for his beloved Uniter.
The End
