"I see you've gotten yourself caught up in another one of these situations, Wright"
Phoenix jerked his head in the direction of the voice, a voice he thought he would never hear again.
"Edgeworth?" he called, his voice barely over a whisper.
Miles made his way over to the lone hospital bed in the small, uninviting room. "I heard you took a rather nasty spill" he said, not unkindly.
Phoenix chuckled weakly, "You could say that"
Miles could not help but worry more than he knew he should, though the reason he did not know.
When he had gotten the call from his old friend Larry, he nearly hung up the phone… until Larry mentioned Phoenix.
Miles had rushed over, taking a charter jet even though it was the middle of the night.
"You shouldn't have been so reckless" Miles said, though his comment was ignored as Phoenix drifted out of consciousness.
Miles took a seat next to the bed, determined to wait until his old friend woke so that he could scold him for his behavior.
With nothing better to do, he simply sat, staring off into the distance and gathering his once organized thoughts.
'It couldn't be because of mere friendship…' he thought to himself, remembering how he had arrived just by the mention of his "friend" having been admitted into the hospital.
Miles closed his eyes. 'It seems I can deny the truth no longer' a heavy sigh escaped his lips 'I seem to have developed feelings for him'
There was a soft rustling of sheets.
Niles was too engrossed in his own thoughts to even notice the pair of half-lidded blue eyes now resting upon him.
Miles became frustrated with himself, running a hand none-to-gently through his hair and muttering to himself like a madman.
If he was strong enough, Phoenix would have let out a bark of laughter at the sight, but he was already having enough trouble keeping conscious.
Though try as he might, he could not stop the strangled chuckle that echoed lightly across the room.
Miles froze, his eye lids snapping open.
"Wright" he tried desperately to regain some of his lost composure, staring at the other man sternly.
Phoenix let out another chuckle, though it sounded more like a whimper.
"Thank you" he said softly, his voice barely more than a hoarse whisper, "I didn't think you would actually come… I didn't think I would ever see you again"
He broke into a fit of painful coughs, but otherwise looked genuinely happy.
Miles grasped Phoenix's hand "I could never totally abandon you" he said softly "Not now that I know I love you"
'I guess you don't know what you've got until you thought that you've lost it' he thought vaguely, but decided his situation was not one for logic as he brushed his lips lightly against the other's.
