Twins.

A twin is one of two offspring produced in the same pregnancy. Twins can either be monozygotic ("identical"), meaning that they develop from one zygote that splits and forms two embryos or…

Separate but the same. Equal but different. Two physical entities, one identical appearance.

Twins—more specifically a pair of twins.

The Hitachiin twins.

Hikaru and Kaoru—The Hitachiin twins.

…Because there were separate but the same. Equal but different. Two physical entities, one identical appearance.

—And slowly, very slowly or maybe even quickly, but surely the inseparable duo were…separating? The offspring made from one that became two but remained one for a number of years were slowly drifting apart and becoming their own independent twin…

Or so it would seem.

Because Hikaru may think separating one's self from the other is a good idea, or maybe it wasn't even his idea in the first place—Haruhi always seemed to have an opinion, but Kaoru was nothing without his brother. And whether or not his brother understood that was questionable but not very important—

—Her opinions seemed to matter more so in the end the younger twin could do nothing but stifle away his own thoughts, they were irrelevant anyways. Well to the elder of the twin anyways. But that was okay, that was just fine. Hikaru new best, Hikaru new everything, Hikaru was right about everything—

—The bitter taste of salt taints his mouth as he tries to bites back the sobs racking his tiny, little form.

Even when his brothers right about them needing to become independent he's still dependent on the independent decision his brother has made. It's a never ending cycle—

Then again…he could end it!

The cuts are jagged, the pain only numbing, and the blood—oh god. The blood is rich, and endless, slowly and satisfyingly sliding down his wrist staining the carpeted floor beneath him.

Red is such a beautiful color.

…and when his vision starts to blur and his head starts spinning the room around him the only thing he does, or is capable of doing, is plaster a sickening smirk onto his paling face because, again, it's the only thing he can do or maybe it's the fact that it's what he's done by himself that is so satisfying.

An independent decision that he, himself had made. Without his brother. Without Hikaru. All by himself.

Hikaru finally had his independence from his brother.

A/N: ...this is the darkest thing I have ever written in my life...oh dear. Uhm. I really have nothing to say for this. Please read and review if you like.
