"Mer, Mer!" Meriadoc Brandybuck grinned to himself as he heard the tiny voice of his 2 year old cousin and best friend, Peregrin Took as he approached. Merry was 10 years of age and although his two other cousins Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee were around his age he was best mates with Pippin.

Placing his book down on the ground beside him he quickly caught the flying bundle known as Pippin in a tight hug. "Look what I got Mer" exclaimed Pippin holding up what seemed to be a helmet of some sort. It was a brownish/blackish colour with a white hand planted on it; Merry sighed knowing that one day his little cousin would get into trouble from picking up random objects. Little did he know, that day was closer than he expected. "That's really nice Pip; I guess that will be going into your toy box then?" Pippin grinned, his green eyes sparkling "Yep".

Later that night as Merry settled down into the warmth of his duvets, he heard a shrill shriek coming from the room next door, a shriek that could only be identified as his young, innocent cousin. "PIPPIN!" he yelled as he sprung out of bed, rushing towards what he hoped was just another nightmare. Entering the room he saw two large creatures climbing out of the window, over one of their shoulders was a struggling Pippin. "Lemme go, lemme go, MERRY, HELP ME!!" Merry felt his heart break in two as he realized that he could do nothing. The large creatures knew of Merry's presence and just to torment him (and shut the tiny hobbit up) he hit the young hobbit over the head, knocking him out and ending the tireless screams that poured from his mouth. "PIPPIN, NOOOOO!" cried Merry as a new wave of courage was thrust upon him, he ran towards the intruder as the window shut, thus shutting out Merry's one true friend and the hope of ever seeing him again.

IN ISENGARD:

Saruman gazed at the small, shivering bundle in the middle of his cold room; he knew that once he earned the trust of this child he could bend him to his will. The power stirring within this child would be an unstoppable force once it was properly harnessed. Saruman knew this as he walked over to the child but the child did not. Bending down to eye level Saruman asked "What is your name child?" The child lifted up it's tear-streaked face and answered in a trembling voice "P..Pippin."
