Tom was sitting backstage right before he and his twin & co went on. He had a pensive look on his face, which was not rare. His friends had learned to ignore it. But what Tom was thinking about this time was different from what he normally pondered. Before entering the building, he and his band had had to make the trip from the tour bus to the hall. That meant a long line of girls waiting for autographs and touches on the hand. But this line of girls was different -- rather, it had a girl in it that seemed very different from other nights. This girl was not towards the front of the group. She stood back from the line, almost shy. Her almost-black hair helped her fade into the night, but her bright green eyes did nothing to help her blend.
Tom had gotten close to her area of the line, and she had suddenly looked up, and their eyes had locked. Tom knew there was no such thing as love at first sight -- the only thing that happens that quickly is lust. However, he had a feeling about the girl; she seemed not as shallow or pathetic as the other girls.
She pressed backwards in the crowd, almost afraid to get too close to him. However, when he'd held out his hand to her, she'd come forward with her cd for him to sign. He signed it with an extra flourish and when he handed it back, their hands had touched -- just a tiny bit. There had been an almost electric shock between them.
He had added a note to her signature -- "Meet me after."
But now that he'd done it, he was not sure that it had been the right thing to do. She was a fan girl, after all, and not a famous woman like most of the people he got to know.
Being with someone famous was not a good thing, necessarily, for those who were not originally famous, so he didn't know if he wanted to date her, since that would subject her to so much annoyance.
Who was he kidding; did he actually know that she liked him? She could have been there to worship Bill -- or worse, she could have just been sent to get a signature for her friend.
Tom sighed; there was only one way to find out. He would see her after -- if she showed up.
He stood up with the rest of the bad and strode on the stage. His fans needed him.
