Lucy had always reminded him of a diamond. The way she sparkled and shined was akin to the finest of the gem, and her eyes, oh, her eyes; they were just the most perfect thing Albus had seen. When he went searching for the perfect engagement ring, he could never find one that shone quite like Lucy did. He had to settle for the best thing he could find, and though she was more than delighted, he was not satisfied.
At the same time, she reminded him of the sky. She was so open, so free, and so beautiful, that it hurt for him to think of her caged by anyone. For that, he never asked anything of her, except for her love. Lucy gladly gave it to him.
Proclaiming his love to her was the seventh best day of his life. Outside her window, Albus had waited patiently for her to get his message. He hadn't waited too long before she had come to his side. With a voice he had been working on for years, Albus serenaded her with a song he thought described her perfectly. It was only after that she told him she hated the Beatles. But she said yes to him anyway.
The sixth best day of his life was Ianto and Scorpius's double wedding. That was their first real date, and Albus had awkwardly been wearing a kilt, for Ianto wanted to have a traditional Scottish wedding. Bagpipes replaced pianos, and plaid outwore white. It was a wonderful sight to behold; Ianto wedded to Louis, and Scorpius wedded to Rose. However, the real magic had happened afterword. Albus and Lucy had ended up not being able to make it to either of their houses, and so stayed in a hotel with each other. It was their first night together intimately.
Wedding bliss had fogged his memory of the fifth best day of his life. Everything up until the "I dos", and everything after the "congratulations" was a distant thing of the past. The smile on her face was the brightest in his entire mind, as well as how beautiful she looked in her wedding dress.
Numbers 4, 3, and 2 on his list were the birth of their children: Desmond, Sarah, and Samuel. Each of them was as beautiful as the next. Desmond was the oldest. He took after his uncle and great grandfather in that he was a trouble-maker. In retrospect, Albus jokingly regretted not naming him James to keep up the tradition. Sarah was in the middle, and she was a sweetheart like her mother. She was his perfect little girl, and always did well. Samuel was the youngest, and the most unlike any of them. No one talked about Samuel much anymore since he ended up in Muggle prison, but they all still loved him and visited him twice a year, as well as whenever else they were allowed to.
Albus's second best day was walking Sarah down the isle. His little girl looked as beautiful as her mother had on their wedding day, but commanded twice as much prowess. She was the Minister of Magic, after all, and her wedding day was covered by all the presses. Only the Quibbler was actually allowed an interview, for Bryony Scamander (Scorpius and Rose's daughter) was Sarah's close friend. Albus's father even attended, which was a surprise because he had been ill since Ginny died. The occasion was grandiose, and though Samuel couldn't be there to see his sister married, they had sent him a recording of the whole event.
Though every one of those days was more than brilliant, none compared to Albus's best day. In his entire life, the day he could definitely say was the best wasn't even one he could remember. It was the day he met Lucy, when they were all but young.
