Pure Evil
Jack scanned the horizon. Not seeing any danger, he turned to the remnants of his team. "All clear," he said. "We have a go."
Teal'c and Sam sprang into action. Quickly subduing the guards, they entered the alien fortress, O'Neill following them, protecting their backs. Making their way through the gloomy halls, eventually they found their way into the dank, foul dungeon where Daniel Jackson had been held prisoner for the last six months.
As the intrepid three bravely risked their lives to save their friend, Jack reflected on the events that had led them to this moment. On a seemingly routine mission, Daniel had been betrayed by the very people he had tried to befriend. Captured and sold to a particularly vicious goa'uld, the young scientist had endured many months of torment before the SGC was able to gain knowledge of his whereabouts and mount a rescue attempt.
The three paused outside the cell door. "Remember what our informant said?" Sam whispered fearfully. "Daniel's been beaten, starved, tortured so many different ways and kept completely isolated for nearly half a year. There's no guarantee that he'll be alive, or if he is, that he'll be sane after that ordeal."
"I don't care, Carter," Jack said. "Dammit, he's my Spacemonkey, and NOTHING will ever change that. As long as there's life there's hope."
"Indeed, O'Neill. DanielJackson is our brother. We will find him, even at the cost of our own lives," the Jaffa warrior declaimed.
"Yasureyabetcha," Jack said jauntily.
Carter made short work of the lock. Slowly, to avoid any revealing noise, the cell door swung open. A ray of light revealed a horrific scene, causing the team to gasp in shock. Sam clutched at Jack for support, scarcely able to contain her horror, while Jack manfully struggled to maintain his composure. Even the battle-hardened Teal'c, witness to many a goa'uld atrocity, quailed before the pitiful sight of his former colleague.
Fighting down nausea, Teal'c bent over Daniel, lifting the archeologist in his arms, cradling him as tenderly as he would his own child. He rapidly exited the dungeon, followed by O'Neill and Carter. Fortunately, they did not meet any resistance on their way to the Stargate.
"Dial home Carter," Jack said, his voice husky with emotion as he contemplated the moaning bundle in the Jaffa's arms.
"Yessir," Carter said through her tears.
Sadly, the team brought the shattered wreck that had once been Daniel Jackson back to the SGC.
Epilogue:
Daniel bounded into the Commissary. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, he showed no traces of the ordeal he had endured. Spotting his teammates at a nearby table, he trotted over to join them.
"Hi guys, what's up?" Daniel chirped merrily.
"We're trying to decide where to go on our next mission," Jack said, gazing tenderly at his friend.
"Great! I can't wait to get back to work!" Daniel said eagerly.
"Daniel, are you serious?" Sam asked.
"Well, Janet says I'm ready for work, so let's go!" Daniel said, grinning.
"You sure you're ready, Spacemonkey?" Jack asked.
"Sure, why not?" Daniel enthused. "I've been out of action long enough."
"True," Jack agreed. "Ya got any ideas?"
"Hey I know, let's go back to the planet where I was captured," he said with a smile. "I'm really looking forward to meeting up with the Xarkons again."
"DanielJackson, were they not the ones responsible for your capture, imprisonment and torture?" Teal'c inquired.
"He's right, Daniel. How can you stand to face them again?" Sam questioned.
"Oh, that's ancient history. I've been back, what, three days now? I'll go nuts if I spend anymore time in the infirmary," Daniel burbled happily. "You know me, I can't hold a grudge for long."
"All righty then," Jack said. "Xarkon it is!"
The End.
