Hi! I'm an amateur at writing fanfictions so please excuse my mistakes! Thank you & I hope you guys enjoy the prologue to my story.

"Soul!" I screamed while running throughout the mansion. The sound of my voice echoed throughout the hallway. "Where are you?"

I stopped in my tracks to wait for a reply or at least any sign of life: his footsteps, his heavy breathing from running around, or even the sound of his laughter. There was none.

I was about to give up all hope of ever finding him when I heard a faint eerie sound coming from a nearby room. As I walked closer and closer to the room, the sound got louder and louder until it became distinct. It was an eerie, yet beautiful piano piece. It resonated from my ears and vibrated throughout my whole body. The sound gave my body goosebumps.

When I reached the door, I hesitated while reaching for the doorknob. What was I afraid of? I pulled myself together and held a firm grip on the doorknob,. I slowly turned it and peered inside. I tried to be careful and not make any unnecessary sound that would disturb the music.

The room was relatively dark. The only source of light came the tiny gap in the curtains from a small window. The light was shining down on a figure sitting on the piano bench. This figure was a small boy: ghostly hair and bloody eyes. He glowed like an angel, but had the appearance of the devil.

I watched from a distance as he continued to produce creepy music from his dark grand piano. His movements were rough, yet he was able to make such beautiful sounds. When the boy was done, he sighed deeply and started stretching.

I acted out of impulse and began clapping. "That was so amazing, Soul!" I stepped outside the darkness and toward the piano where the source of light was.

"M-maka? When did you get here?" Soul was caught off-guard and nearly fell off the bench.

"Just a while ago. How come you've never told me you played the music? Especially when you're this good!" I took a seat next to Soul on the bench and started pressing random keys with my index fingers.

"Because..." He looked down at his lap and started swinging his feet. There was a slight moment of silence. "Mother and Father tells me I'm creepy when I play the piano. They always lecture me because I can never be like Wes. Even though I always apologize, they always lock me up in my room whenever Wes has violin practice or a recital."

I stood up in front of Soul and smacked his cheeks with my palms, forcing his face up to look at me. "Don't say 'sorry.' There's nothing wrong with being you."

"B-but.."

"Don't say 'but' either!" I let go of his face and walked toward the window. I opened the curtains and slid the window open. I leaned out the window, took a deep breath, yelled, "I like Soul just the way he is!"

"H-hey! Shut up! You're embarrassing!"

I took another deep breath and shouted, "He is the best piano player in the world!"

"Maka! What did I tell you?" He stood up and ran in my direction. I started running away from him. Out the door. Throughout the mansion. The mansion was no longer silent. The sound of laughter and screaming echoed throughout the huge mansion and chased away the quietness.

If I had one wish, it would be to return to those happy and peaceful days.
