One-Shot: Kittens Are Forever
On a dark rainy night, Lucy walked towards her apartment block with a small umbrella over her head. The weekend always meant sleeping in, watching TV and staying in pyjamas all day long. A great end to a long week.
She was just about to go inside the large building when a small noise rose over the rumbles of the thunder. She looked around her trying to find the source of the noise but to no avail. Again she moved over to the door when she heard it again. This time she was certain it was coming from a narrow alleyway. Inside there were several damp boxes near a dumpster.
"Meow!"
Lucy walked closely towards the small boxes. She was shocked to see what was inside. Sitting in the corner of one of the boxes was a small grey kitten with dark strips on its back.
"Aw, you poor thing." She picked up the small feline and snuggled it close to her jacket. "Let's get you inside where it's warm." The kitten purred at the warmth radiating off Lucy's skin.
Once they were inside, Lucy wrapped the poor kitten it a small towel and started to dry it off. The kitten meowed happily. She poured out a small bowl filled with milk. The kitten gladly started to drink the white goodness.
"Bet you'd like a nice home with some nice owners eh?" Lucy stroked the kitten. Its fur was so soft, but still slightly matted from the rain. "You got any folks? Owners?" The kitten looked at her with sad eyes.
"None eh?" She thought to herself. It seemed awful to just leave the kitten at a shelter. And she didn't know anyone who could look after the poor thing. So she made the decision. "You know what? I'm gonna keep you." The kitten purred happily. It left its bountiful drink to rub its head against Lucy's foot. She laughed playfully. It was just so cute. The kitten soon returned to finish the milk, until every last drop was licked clean.
"You gonna need a name aren't you?" The kitten watched her expectantly with eager eyes.
"How about...Sparks?" No reaction from the kitten.
"Puss?" Still no reaction.
"Riley? It's me grandmother's name." She said eagerly. But there was still not a single reaction from the small kitten. Lucy thought hard. "Who knew picking a name would be so hard." She suddenly snapped her fingers.
"How about Patch?" The kitten purred with delight. "Right then Patch, I'll take you to the vet tomorrow. He can get you nice and neat. In the meantime, it's beddy-byes for both of us." She picked up the fur ball and placed it on her bed. Lucy searched her room until she found a small tissue box. She cut it out and filled it with toilet roll and a woollen scarf and put it onto her bed.
Patch leapt into it, and snuggled himself into the comfort of the scarf. Lucy smiled at the scene before lifting the box down onto the floor beside her. Then she herself climbed into bed and turned the light out.
"Good night Patch." He purred softly back to her. Lucy had certainly found a new friend.
This idea popped into my head when I was at school, so I thought I might get it down. Hopefully this isn't too bad-I was kinda rushed for time. Please R&R!
