Nothing but time

He didn't understand, though it wasn't unexpected. Auditory hallucinations, depression, grief loneliness.

He heard it again. The soft supple noise of familiar movement in the Tardis.

Rose.

She was long gone trapped far away out of reach, rationally he knew this, but still here if only in his mind. He needed to find another companion, something to fill the silence, maybe he should get a dog.

Again the faint laughter, movement. He needed a distraction. He had to land somewhere, anywhere any when. A distraction was welcomed.

The Tardis slowed and landed with ease, for some reason it was easier to pilot, meaning that it actually landed where he had planned it. Maybe the old girl was taking pity on him. Although, his hammer kept disappearing to odd places.

It stepped out onto the street, this wasn't healthy or a good idea, one of the many things no one every told you growing up. Time travel and grief do not mix, but still he went.

Sitting on a bench he watches and waits. The day passes by, the world oblivious the the stranger amongst them.Peaceful until the white noise is broken by two children weaving through the estate.

"Rose wait up"

"Run faster then. We were suppose to be back an hour ago, Mum's gonna kill us"She barely registered his presence on the bench

"Kill me you mean, me being the oldest" An out of breath Mickey slumped forward, his chest heaving to draw breath. The time lord chuckled amused, 'it looked like Mikey had trouble keeping up with her pace of life from the start then.'

"Come here a minute I've found something brilliant here" She runs back, blond hair whipping round her face with the wind, 'trusting as always Rose, you never lost that.'

"What is it?"

"Tag your it!" and the race beings again.

"Hey! No fair, come back here Mickey"

"No tag backs. See ya later Rose"

He could stay for a little while, at least he knew the sounds were real. There was something else, someone else a flash of a trench coat in the shadows.

Softly he smiled as whispered "Not exactly incognito, though that's never your style, flamboyant as always." The captain strolled past the other end of the estate oblivious to the time lord's presence.

"I really shouldn't do this. Though the same could be said of you Jack, it's a good job you don't know me yet .Can't mess with events, shouldn't messy with the great time vortex." After a pause "More than necessary," 'How many times had he come to this spot, to this century. He had to stop.'

He continued to talk to the empty space, passers by avoided his gaze wary. "Maybe I should bring a guitar , though that means I'd need to get one and learn to play it , and a hat too. Need a hat for the coins."

The sky grew darker and the people ebbed away.

"Rose , Rose Tyler get your backside in that house now." Jackie drew breath for the next target "And you Mickey Smith, keeping her out this late when you knew she had to be home. Should know better at your age. Go on hop it. Now Mickey! Your poor Grandma was ringing me in a right tis wondering where on earth you are! Shift the pair of you"

'It appeared Jackie's overprotective start might have started here'; the doctor idly fed some bread to the pigeons round his feet.Domestics, he knew now why he had avoided them so fiercely. It was soo easy to be drawn in , to stay and watch as they faded, while he remained behind.

"I need someone to talk to something to hold onto, the Tardis is so empty now, and it's time to find another companion. I don't want to Rose. I want to stay here"
