Lay Me To Sleep

Disclaimer: I don't own the characters or Kingdom Hearts II. I also don't own the song Prelude 12/21 by AFI, but if you have it… please listen to it as you read this fic. Enjoy.

Bang

Bang

Bang

A fist meeting wood with every ounce of its human strength. Desperation made the beating faster.

Bang Bang Bang

Bang Bang Bang

Bang Bang Bang

Memories of the hand he held, the burning lips, tears.

Bang Bang Bang

He kissed the tears away from his lover's face with care as he placed a small key in the other's hands.

Bang Bang Bang

The door would not open.

Bang Bang Bang

Hands scrambled around and he found a device in the darkness. It had small holes and a button. The object made a hissing sound when the button was pressed and it fell from his hands.

Bangbangbangbangbang

A familiar voice crackled from the offensive thing he'd discarded. The sound from it was not helpful words but hysterical laughter.

He snatched up the device and squeezed the button with all his might. "Checkers? Where are you?" He inquired hopefully with the familiar one's nick name.

The boy had to trial off his chuckling, "Oh my dear sweet Memory, where Iam should not concern you right now."

"Help me Checkers, I can't get out. Use the key I gave you." The trapped one called into the small receiver.

"I need to forget." The other replied abruptly.

"What do you mean? Please open the door." His voice grew quiet as he begged.

"I have to forget and I'm sorry but I can't do that with a Memory around." A sob resounded throughout his small enclosed room.

Silence was interrupted by the splatter of rain. At first the water was slow but with every speeded breath the intensity grew until the banging he continued was completely drowned out.

Bang Bang Bang

"The more you struggle the faster it'll happen." A voice said before a large mound of something collided with the door. Tremors of vibration caused his small room to shake.

His love had finally snapped. The terrible secret he'd never known must have come out. To create a new life he had to destroy everything from the one he already had, a fate he'd be subjected to every time he was reborn.

The boy resigned himself to his fate and finally gave up. He couldn't do anything anyway.

"Checkers?" He softly inquired. "You've still got it right?"

"I've got it Memory. And though I'll forget you, I'll always keep it." The other promised.

"One more thing, could you sing to me?" The request was spoken at a hardly audible whisper.

"This is what I brought you this you can keep." He began the lullaby. "This is what I brought you may forget me. I promise to depart just promise one thing… kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep." Checkers sang in a hauntingly beautiful voice until the very end.

"I loved you Checkers." He chose his last words and closed his eyes.

"Good night my precious Memory." All he heard before the door finally caved in and his broken body was crushed under the weight of the dirt and wood.

"Kiss my eyes and lay me to… sleep."

This is what I brought you
This you can keep
This is what I brought
You may forget me
I promise to depart
just promise one thing
Kiss my eyes
And lay me to sleep

This is what I brought you
This you can keep
This is what I brought
You may forget me
I promise you my heart

Just promise to sing
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.

This is what I thought
I thought you'd need me
This is what I thought
So think me naive
I'd promise you a heart
You'd promise to keep
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep.
