Warmth

A soft purr caressed the two almost identical kittens as they snuggled closely to their mama. No matter how young and little they were, they both knew that next to mama was always the safest place. Even if it was the coldest day of the season, they both knew that they would always be warm next to mama.

Confusion

"Dears, I don't want you to go outside for a little while," mama softly hummed into their ears. "Only for a little while though. Then we can go for walks again."

They both were confused, but it didn't matter, because mama was calm and everything was going to be alright. Even when one of them had fallen out of a tree and twisted her paw, mama had been calm and made sure she healed. Even when of them had tripped near the water's edge and almost fallen in, mama had been calm and caught him.

So they both knew everything would be alright

Fear

Mama telekinetically tied the blanket around the two trembling kittens in their basket, being sure not to make it too tight but secure enough that they would be safe. They kittens didn't know what was going on, they only knew that mama was worried. The only time either kitten had seen mama worried had been a long time ago when papa had left.

Mama slipped a small loop of twine with a whisper shell on the end under the blanket between the two kittens. She leaned her head in close, just enough so that they could hear her delicate voice whisper.

"I will always love you, my dears."

Remember

Yeardley looked out at the beautiful view of the Peaks of Kailasa before her. A soft breeze caused the small shell tied loosely around her neck to sway, reassuring her that it was still there, next to her heart. I will find you, Aldwyn, she thought, that's what mama would have wanted me to do.

She put a paw to the whisper shell, hearing that soft, kind voice resonate from her memory.

"I will always love you, my dears."

In loving memory of my mother (1963-2014)
