PLEASE READ AUTHOR'S NOTE SO YOU UNDERSTAND
Author's Note: So... in series 6, episode 11 "The God Complex," The Doctor is running around with Rory and Amy in the fake '80's hotel with the rooms with all the scary things in them. At one point the Doctor opens his own door and we don't get to see what it is he's afraid of most. I'm assuming that it's himself. Just the same, this idea popped into my head and I couldn't shake it. It discusses the Doctor's reasoning for leaving Amy and Rory behind at the end of the episode. Super short and fairly pointless. I hope you read and review!
Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who, obviously.
Ah. Of course. Who else?
They were all there, staring at him.
"There's a room here for everyone, Doctor. Even you."
And there they were, staring him the face. His greatest fear. The people he believed in.
In the corner sat Micky Smith, glaring daggers at him. "You took me away from everything I knew."
Martha Jones, defeated and weak. She was standing, but leaning heavily against the back wall. "I'm a cold-blooded killer because of you."
Captain Jack, his eyes downcast and devoid of their usually flirtatious spark. "You've ruined me. All I want is to die. Please let me die."
Donna Noble, tears spilling down from those close-set and passionate eyes. "I was going to stay with you for the rest of my life. I was going to stay, and you wouldn't let me."
Rory Williams. "I wanted to live at home. With a car, a house, my wife. You took that from me. You've taken away the possibility of being normal. Of being happy."
Worse: Amelia Pond. "I waited. I waited, and you never came."
He closed his eyes. He didn't want to see their disappointment. He didn't want to face the righteousness of it.
"I hate you."
The words came from a shadowy corner. The Doctor felt his blood run cold. He couldn't handle seeing the face that belonged to that voice. He knew he had ruined them. All of them. He knew that their lives were broken because of him. But by nature of the room, he couldn't keep his eyes away from the corner. He couldn't force himself not to look.
"I hate you," she repeated. Rose Tyler had never looked more beautiful, or more terrible.
It wasn't true. Most of it wasn't true. Martha and Mickey were happy. Jack would live an extraordinarily long life, to be sure, but that didn't mean he wanted to die. Donna Noble was happily married. And Rose Tyler loved him.
Still. Maybe it was best to quit while he was ahead.
So he took Rory to the house he had always wanted. He told Amy to stop waiting.
He stepped in to the TARDIS. Being alone meant that nobody got hurt.
Well. Nobody else.
