It was a good thirty years after Holy Roman Empire had left, and Chibitalia was still waiting for him. Hungary thought it sweet and romantic. Unfortunately, she knew something the other servant didn't. Holy Roman Empire would not be coming back. Not today, not tomorrow, not ever. She was loathe to tell her innocent little friend, lest she break his heart, but he would find out eventually. Austria kept telling her to just get it over with, but he didn't tell Chibitalia either. Hungary wondered if he too, had a soft spot for the boy.
One day, unable to bear the thought of Chibitalia just waiting and waiting with no closure, she decided to tell him.
"Chibitalia? Can you come here for a moment? I have something very important to tell you…about Holy Roman Empire."
"Holy Roman Empire?" the boy asked, excitedly running up to her, "Is he returning? Did he win the war?"
"Chibitalia…"
Hungary scooped up the young boy and held him close, as if that would make the bad news easier to bear.
"I'm afraid that Holy Roman Empire lost his war."
There was a moment of silence, then-
"Oh~ Is that why he's stayed away for so long? Is he embarrassed because he lost?"
"N-no, Chibitalia. It isn't that."
Hungary's throat seemed to clog with grief.
"He isn't coming back because he's no longer…he's dead, Chibitalia. The Holy Roman Empire no longer exists."
There was another long silence.
"Th-that's silly, Hungary-san," Chibitalia said, forcing a smile, "I made a lot of sweets for him- he has to come back! A-and he promised he'd come back when the fighting was over!"
He shoved away from Hungary and ran to his place at the front gate.
"He has to come back! I t-told him I'd wait forever!"
A/N: I am such a sucker for these two. I started drawing a picture of Chibitalia and then BAM! This scene comes and beats me over the head until I write it. So~ hope you enjoy~!
