Kendra lay watching the window as the light of the dawn starting streaming in. It had been a long night. Yesterday she had gone with her grandpa to the centaurs to return the Unicorn Horn. Grandpa had wanted her to come so that she could tell the story of Navarog's defeat.

That night, before going to bed, she laid the destroyed pieces of the knapsack out for the brownies to fix. She knew they couldn't return its magic, but they would be able to repair the knapsack. She was hoping that with the bag repaired her touch could recharge the magic.

All night she had lay awake, hoping she would be able to save Warren this morning. Now she was nervous. What if it didn't work? She crept out of bed and down to the kitchen. She didn't want anyone else to be around in case she failed. The knapsack lay on the ground where she had left the pieces, looking as good as new, with the addition of a few burn marks.

Carefully, Kendra picked it up. She didn't feel anything happen, but she had recharged magical items before without knowing it. She lifted the flap. It had worked. The entrance to the extra dimensional space was visible. Without thinking she climbed in and down the ladder. It was evident that when Warren had woken up he had once again tried to climb the ladder. When he could not get out he had fallen to a heap at the bottom. He was lying there asleep right now, the Yahtzee game spread out next to him. From the look of the score cards Bubda had convinced him to play several times over the last week.

Crying, Kendra nudged Warren awake. His eyes seemed to have a hard time focusing. It looked like he had been crying a lot recently.

"Kendra, what happened, are you okay?" he managed to croak out.

"Everything is okay, Navarog has been defeated, and we are home," Kendra replied.

"Some guardian I turned out to be."

As Kendra helped him to a sitting position she saw a head appear in the opening above them. It was Seth.

"You better go get Dale," Kendra called up, "I don't think I'll be able to carry him out of here on my own."

Kendra could hear the excited chatter in the kitchen above. She knew they still had a lot to do to make the world safe again, but they were one step closer.
