Today was it, she and a whole bunch of her friends were getting moved to the capital of Coruscant to the Jedi Temple. She was panicking just a little bit, just a teeny, tiny, little bit, but she wasn't going to show it.
"Esinon! Hurry up the transport is leaving!"
"I'm coming Jett, will you give the woman three seconds to pack her stuff!" She ran outside, her clothing wasn't as similar to the other padawans, but that didn't matter. She liked the way her clothes were, she had plain neutral pants, a grey shirt, and sleeveless, long, flowy, blue, sweater.
"You've always been slow." she threw her sack onto her shoulder and dashed out to the transport and jumped on next to Jett.
"Have not."
"Have too, let me remind you, that you were the last one to find your kyber crystal." she pulled out her lightsaber igniting it letting the blue blade wave in front of his face.
"Yet I made my hilt the fastest."
"Whatever."
"Who do think will be your master?"
"I dunno, hope it isn't someone too uptight, want some freedom. Not exactly like we have gotten a lot here."
"Yeah, but I would like a master who really cares and wants to teach. There is so much more I could learn." The transport jolted into the sky and flew off the planet, they jumped to hyperspace.
"Ugh, I've never liked that."
"You better get used to it fast because we are in the middle of a war if you hadn't noticed."
"Guess you're right," he muttered, she watched as the stars passed by in a blue and white blur and they jolted as they came out of hyperspace to see the beautiful, sprawling city of Coruscant.
"Jett! Look, it's gorgeous! Just look at all the people! I can see the temple from here!" she yelled, face squished against the window.
"I feel like your master is in for a real treat," he muttered under his breath, she playfully punched him as the transport neared the temple. The door opened and the two children jumped off the transport into a line with a man standing in the front, his dark skin glinted in the bright sun with his Jedi robes standing out against all the fancy clothes of the people of Coruscant. The line moved steadily along and soon it was her turn,
"Name please?"
"Esinon Windcaster." he handed her a slip of paper,
"Welcome, and may the force be with you."
"Thank you master." she hurriedly opened the paper and read a name on the paper. Obi-Wan Kenobi. Report to him immediately for the beginning of padawan training. She didn't really know what Master Kenobi looked like, or sounded like, or acted like, so she guessed she would just have to ask around. First, she walked up to a Kel Dor, and a Cerean,
"Excuse me, do you know where I could find an Obi-Wan Kenobi? I'm Esinon Windcaster and I'm his new padawan."
"I'm sorry Esinon, I'm not sure where Master Kenobi is at the moment."
"Thank you." she bowed to them and then went off to the next Jedi, a togruta.
"Excuse me, have you seen Master Kenobi? I'm his new padawan."
"I'm sorry I don't but I'll tell him you were looking for him if I see him."
"Thank you." she kept jumping from Jedi to Jedi looking for her new Master but he was nowhere to be found. Hopefully, Jett was having better luck than she was. She finally found a man in black Jedi clothing with red accents, it felt like she had talked to every single Jedi in this stinking temple.
"Excuse me, do you know where I could find an Obi-Wan Kenobi? I'm his new Padawan, Esinon Windcaster."
"Oh, you're looking for Obi-Wan? He's in the library as usual."
"Thank you so much, Master…"
"Skywalker."
"Thank you so much Master Skywalker, I really appreciate it."
"No problem Esinon, good luck with Obi-Wan." she dashed off towards the library, but this was a big temple. After a few twists and turns, she finally found the library. She spotted a dirty blond haired man sitting at a table covered in books and looking at a hologram. This was it, now or never, she was pretty sure that was him. She took a breath and walked over,
"Hello, um, are you Obi-Wan Kenobi. I'm Esinon Windcaster."
"Yes I am, are you my new padawan?"
"Yes, I am. I'm so glad I found you Master Kenobi, I've been looking everywhere."
"It's wonderful to meet you Esinon. I was just finishing up here and then we can go see start training if you like."
"Whatever you wish Master." she helped him pick up the countless stacks of books and put them away and then followed him out to a training ground and he handed her a helmet.
"I would just like to get an idea of what training extent you have." she nodded and put the helmet on it shielding her eyes. She pulled out her lightsaber and ignited it. She could faintly hear the small blast droid moving around, she closed her eyes and focused. Her heart was racing, she really wanted to make a good impression with her new master. She could sense the blast droid moving but she couldn't tell exactly where, then she felt one sting, then another, and another.
"Esinon take off the helmet." she took it off trying not to look ashamed,
"Deep breath in, deep breath out. Don't think, just feel. Reach out, don't think about anything but total peace and serenity. Now put the helmet back on, when you're ready, we will begin again." She closed her eyes, breath in, breath out, clear the mind, feel, don't think.
"I'm ready Master."
"Begin." She could now sense every movement and was able to deflect every beam, she removed the helmet from her head to face her master.
"I knew you could do it young padawan. It's amazing what you can do when you clear your mind of distractions. I could sense the nervousness in your heart, don't worry on my first day I did the exact same thing." she smiled at her master who was beaming at her. Her eyes started to drift away to her friend Jett who was doing the same thing that she had been only moments ago. He was standing with the Kel Dor she had seen earlier,
"Is that your friend?" Obi-Wan motioned towards Jett,
"Yes, that's Jett Todo. We met at the academy and were fast friends."
"I think I have some more questions for you, come along. I must get to know you before I can properly train you." She followed Obi-Wan to a quiet balcony in the temple and stood next to him looking out at the rushing city.
"So where do you come from Esinon Windcaster?"
"I"m from Endor."
"The forest moon?" she nodded her head,
"Who are your parents, I was led to believe no humans lived on Endor."
"They don't, I wasn't born on Endor. I just ended up there and then the Ewoks sent me away when they discovered I was force sensitive."
"Can you speak Ewokese?"
"Chak. That means yes."
"That is going to come in handy."
"Goot Chyasee."
"You are good, so how old are you?"
"Fourteen, I think. The Ewok calendar is super messed up."
"I can see that, when did you first realize you were force sensitive."
"When I was maybe five, everything around me started to float and the Ewoks thought I was god. It was kind of scary because I was making them float too. I couldn't exactly control it."
"Do you want to become a Jedi?"
"I'm not exactly sure, I mean it wasn't something I was starting out as wanting but it's what I want now if that makes sense."
"It makes perfect sense. Now go get some rest we have a long day a training tomorrow."
"Thank you Master Kenobi." She bowed and ducked out to go find her room, after a bit of searching she was able to find a small room with a bed and not much else just a small table. She pressed her com link trying to get a hold of Jett to ask how his first day went.
"Jett, Jett, pick up your comlink dude!"
"One sec, what's up Esinon."
"How was your first day?"
"Awesome! Being a padawan is literally the best thing that has ever happened to me!"
"Who's your master?"
"Plo Koon, he's super cool but kind of uptight. I mean I don't really care because it could have been worse but I'm going to be the best Jedi ever! So what about you, how was your day and who's your master?"
"My first day was good, did some training and then my master and I talked so he could learn how to train me. My master's name is Obi-Wan Kenobi, I found him in the library-"
"Hang on, you mean Obi-Wan Kenobi? Like as in the Obi-Wan Kenobi who was the first Jedi to kill a Sith in over a thousand years? Like while he was still a padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi?"
"He did all that?"
"Yes! He's one of the most legendary Jedi ever! Where have you been living? Under a rock?"
"Basically, I'm from Endor remember. He did all that as a padawan?"
"Yes! He's so cool." She could hear Jett freaking out on the other end of the comlink,
"Jett, calm down."
"Can't be calm, you have like the greatest teacher ever!"
"I'm sure Master Plo is a great teacher too."
"Can I meet him?"
"I'm sure you'll meet him eventually, did you meet any other people?"
"Sort of, just mostly other Jedi while I was looking for Master Plo."
"Cool, well technically I'm supposed to be sleeping."
"Same, but I'm too excited everything is so much bigger here."
"It's way different, also thanks a lot for freaking me out. Now I have a high bar that's set for me."
"You're welcome, you're gonna be an even better Jedi than me I can feel it Esinon. THE FORCE IS TELLING ME!"
"Jett! Do you want to wake up your entire floor?"
"Right, sorry. I guess I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Yup, see you."
"See ya later." The comlink went dark and she laid down on her pillow, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Sith killer, how was she ever supposed to live up to that standard. She woke up in the morning early and headed to what she thought was the mess hall, it was off separate from the temple. She walked into a room filled with clones, and Jedi of all shapes and sizes. She wanted to try and find Jett, but there were a lot of people. She scanned the rows of tables filled with people until he spotted Jett in the middle of a crowd of clones. She walked over to him to find Jett listening to the stories of the clones.
"Jett?"
"One sec, this story is getting good." Esinon sat down next to him,
"As I was saying, we were in the middle of nowhere when all of a sudden there were droids everywhere. They were firing at us from every direction and we had no cover!"
"Tup for the last time we have told you not to make up false stories." Esinon looked up to see the same Jedi from yesterday, Skywalker.
"What can I say General Skywalker, I have a talent."
"Use your talents on the battlefield, not at the lunch table. Young padawans, you should report to training soon."
"Yes Master Skywalker." the two of them scurried off looking for their masters, of course, Esinon had gotten the Master that no one could ever find. She looked around the temple stopping to ask if anyone had seen him once in a while and finally she walked into the library and walked up and down a few rows of books when she almost got smashed by a few. She held out her hands making the books float and land in a neat pile next to her,
"Can you pass those backup?" she immediately recognized the voice,
"Master Kenobi?" She saw him stick his head out over the ledge on top of the bookcase,
"Esinon, I was just about to come looking for you when I got a little preoccupied."
"Are these yours?" she pointed to the stack of books next to her.
"Yes, now first training exercise. Use the force to give me the books."
"Ok." she concentrated on the books and passed them back up to her master,
"Now what?"
"Next lesson, patience is a virtue." she waited patiently for her master to come down from his endless research. He finally climbed down,
"Alright, let's get started. It's been awhile since I've had a padawan unless you count Anakin. That boy could use a little more training in the art of waiting."
"Who's Anakin?"
"Skywalker, you might have seen him walking around here."
"I saw him just this morning, he told me to get to training."
"Good of him to do, honestly I would have been late if you hadn't found me." he smiled at her as he led down the maze of hallways to a room with a big round table in it. He walked over to it and pressed a button on the underside of the table sending a sparkling hologram into the empty space.
"Alright, now we are taking a little field trip today but first you need to sense where we are going."
"How do I do that?"
"Same as sensing anything, clear your mind and breathe." she reached out her hand and tried to clear her mind of any excess thoughts and breathed in and out reaching for an answer.
"Tell me young one, what do you see?"
"I see trees, and lakes, and birds. Everything seems green and you can breath in fresh air."
"Know any planets that are like that?"
"It reminds me of Endor, but it isn't familiar like my home would be. There's something unique about it."
"Now focus on that, what's unique about it. Why isn't it Endor?"
"Endor feels like home, but this place it feels unfamiliar. Is it Dantooine?"
"Correct! Excellent."
"Indeed, excellent." She looked down to see a small green creature walking into the room.
"Master Yoda, it's a pleasure to see you."
"As well you Obi-Wan. Your new padawan is this?"
"Yes this is Esinon." she gave a small wave trying not to give to weird a look to this small greenish colored creature.
"Sense great power in this one I do, great conflict as well." Esinon looked nervously to her master, what did he mean great conflict. She was completely on the light side, there was no conflict!
"A breath must you take young one." she looked back to Yoda,
"Help you Obi-Wan will."
"Master Yoda, may I have permission to take my padawan on a little field trip?"
"Learning could happen by a trip."
"Thank you Master Yoda." Obi-Wan led her out of the room to a few docking of ships, they climbed into a yellow ship.
"Obi-Wan! Wait!" he turned around to face Anakin,
"What is it?"
"Where are you going?"
"Dantooine, is there something you need before we leave?"
"Nope." he climbed into the ship and Esinon followed after him in the ship.
"Alright, if we run into any separatist ships it's your job to keep us from crashing and burning." she looked at him wide-eyed,
"I kid, we'll be fine." The hatch door closed and they jolted into the sky flying smoothly,
"I've never like flying," he grumbled,
"Why don't you like to fly?"
"Anakin Skywalker."
"Is he reckless?"
"Very, especially in the sky. You're a welcome change from his crazy shenanigans." She watched the stars fly by as they flew through hyperspace. They jolted out of lightspeed to put them in view of Dantooine with it's green and brown hues with swirling clouds over the surface the ship entered the atmosphere and gracefully touched down to the ground, she climbed out and breathed in the fresh forest air.
"Have you ever been here before?" She asked looking around,
"I think so, it feels like I've been across the whole galaxy and back again."
"Really?" She asked excitedly,
"Probably not." He started to walk through a forest away from their ship. She scurried after him as he continued to walk at a brisk pace, she couldn't exactly concentrate because of the intense beauty of the planet.
"Keep up young one." She moved more quickly and matched her master's pace,
"Where are we going?"
"You'll see." He paused at the hill and then started to climb up. She staggered after him feeling the burn in her legs as she followed after, her pants rubbing against her legs. He stopped at a near a rock,
"Sit." He motioned to the rock, she sat down on the rock crossing her legs and looked up at Obi-Wan.
"As Yoda said, I can sense a strong power with the force inside of you. There is also some great conflict. I brought you out here to try and figure it out. Now close your eyes and just relax not focusing on anything in particular." She closed her eyes pressing her hands against the rock.
"Relax, breathe." She took a breath in, trying to relax but now something felt more peaceful, it felt sort of like home. She lifted her hands slightly fronting the rock letting everything relax.
"Tell me what you are feeling."
"Peace, just peace and serenity."
"Good, now stay there." she stayed in the place of peace and serenity,
"Now just don't think and I'm going to try and sense what the conflict is."
"Ok master, is this going to feel weird?"
"No, not at all." She held still and felt a small tingling sensation pass over her body. She peeked open her eyes to see her master stroking his beard.
"Is everything alright master?"
"Your mind, it's empty yet crowded with many thoughts all at the same time. It's complex, yet peaceful."
"Is that bad?" he sat down next to her on the rock,
"Not exactly, I just don't understand you."
"I'm sorry master," she mumbled,
"Oh little one, you have much to learn, you have done nothing wrong your mind is just complex."
"How do we figure out why you guys sense so much conflict in me?"
"I'm not sure yet, maybe Master Yoda will have some ideas."
"Back to Coruscant?"
"Back to Coruscant."
"Can I fly?" she yelled starting to run down the hill,
"Not if you fly as reckless as Anakin does."
"Only one way to find out, race ya for the cockpit!" she yelled taking off in a run, she could hear his footsteps growing on hers. She ran faster and then she the ship was in sight. She jumped into the cockpit,
"So can I drive?"
"I guess so." Obi-Wan climbed into the ship and the hatch closed on them. She took off into the sky fast, climbing to an incredible height, incredibly quickly. Let's just say that Obi-Wan doesn't let Esinon fly anymore. They made it back to Coruscant and to the temple, and Obi-Wan brought her to Yoda and they went to a dark shaded room. She sat a went inside the force again and again and yet no one could figure out what was going on in her brain, she was starting to feel like there was a conflict between light and dark inside her. Like a war was waging in the depths of her soul.
A few weeks later…
She went back to her quarters and laid on her bed hanging her head upside down, being upside down helped her think. She fiddled with the buttons on her shirt and then her padawan braid, was there something wrong with her, was she not meant to be a Jedi. Was this not such a good idea, after all, maybe she should just go back to Endor and try to figure out another option. Her com link started to blink and buzz, she pressed the green circle.
"This is Esinon."
"Hello, Esinon."
"Master Kenobi, is there something you need?"
"What's troubling you young one?"
"I don't know if this whole being a Jedi thing is going to work out so well. I just don't want to put anyone in danger by the conflict in my own heart."
"Come out to the gardens."
"Yes master." she got up and grabbed a coat and walked out to the gardens. She found him sitting on a bench where he patted for her to sit down on. She sat down and looked at the ground,
"Esinon I still can sense all the conflict inside you, but it's steadily growing. Every day I'm around you, I can feel it more and more but I don't know why."
"I'm not cut out for this whole Jedi thing, I told you that already. I'm probably leaving in the morning."
"I think that you have the potential to be an incredible Jedi, but just in case I'm wrong." he stood up, hand on his lightsaber.
"What are you talking about?"
"On your feet Esinon." she stood up grabbing her lightsaber, he ignited his so did she. They slammed their lightsabers against each other, Esinon deflected his off to the side giving her time to slide underneath his arm. She kicked him into the bench in front of them, he grunted and stood back to his feet and turned back to her. She swung her lightsaber at him which he quickly deflected and seemed to dance around her as she rushedly swung his lightsaber away from her body. She ducked from a kick and turned to his back, she ran towards him and kicked off of his back and did a flip to face him smashing her lightsaber against his. She growled pressing harder against his trying not to lose her grip, he grinned at her before jumping into the air and landing behind her. He swiftly knocked her lightsaber out of her hand sending it clanking to the ground and knocking her to the ground. He was about to put his lightsaber to her neck and end the battle but she wasn't giving up that easily she kicked him in the chest and pulled her lightsaber in her direction just in time to deflect a blow. She slid underneath his legs and pushed him using the force in a topiary. He momentarily stopped before doing the same to her and knocking her lightsaber into his hand ending the fight. He handed her back her lightsaber which she put back at her side,
"Told you I wasn't cut out for this whole Jedi thing."
"I would like to point out how hard my heart is racing right now, and I'm not that old. You're going to be just fine, maybe if we get you out on some missions it will help clear up this conflict."
"Maybe."
"You know that we were all once padawans once you know. Even Sith killers." he winked at her as he walked away,
"But how did you-" he pointed to himself,
"Jedi master," then to her,
"Padawan." she definitely had a one of a kind master, that was for certain.
