I'd like to give special thanks to SinfulLibrian and Cooperjordan for help in planning out this story. As the summary said, you've been warned about campiness, though I've attempted to keep it to a minimum for this first chapter.
Anisha was training in the woods outside his hive. He didn't have much time left before he was to be off to the academy. He trained when he was nervous. Well, he trained generally, it's how his skills had gotten so refined, but training did help keep him calm.
The ACA, Anti-Caste Academy, was an unbelievably illegal practice. You could be culled for so much as knowing someone who knew someone who spoke to someone who was suspected of dealing with them.
But then, low bloods could be killed for no reason whatsoever anyway, and mid-caste wasn't much better.
Being yellow blood, not to mention a psionic, there wasn't really any reason for Anisha not to join with them and the rebellion they hoped to seed against the Empress; though even with that all laid out for him, he'd still only just barely gone for it. It had been the words of a friend who'd also be attending that had swayed him. He was always a sucker for her when it came right down to it.
Anisha froze, both in his movement and in his thoughts as he heard movement approaching. He prepared himself to act fast, certain danger of some kind was afoot.
When a massive, monstrous boar lusus charged out of the undergrowth towards him, jumped up, using his telekinesis to launch himself through the air, over the boar as it charged so he landed on his feet behind the creature.
It was an enormous creature, large enough to serve as a house if hollowed out, with four massive tusks, each with smaller spikes lining it, and much larger slikes going along its back. Going by what he knew, Anisha doubted this lusus had any ward to look after. It wouldn't attack a non-prey species so aggressively otherwise.
This was good Anisha thought. If it did, he would have been making an orphan by slaying the creature. As the boar prepared for another attack, hooves digging slightly into the dirt to propel the body of the beast forward, Anisha held out his hand to channel his powers.
Most psionics could harness their powers in different ways. So fired it all out at once in a blast, some in more focused bolts. Some focused it through summoning pure explosions or sending pulses of psionic power through a target physically.
Any psionic could hypothetically learn to use any method, but most would have one version they moved towards naturally.
Anisha for example favored manifestation. His psionic energy solidified in his hands, forming a pair of twin swords, both still crackling with energy. The boar charged at Anisha, who to the boar's surprise actually charged forward towards it at well.
The boar barrelled faster towards him, tusks at the ready to gore the yellow blood. Anisha kept going, at the last second telekinetically sending himself up into the air and driving his swords into one of the boar's spikes.
The feral lusus evidently couldn't feel through the spikes, as its charge slowed to a stop, as it began attempting to look for the missing yellow blood. Anisha let the swords fade, replacing them with several spears. The less complex the weapon, he less thought they took to manifest.
He threw them up into the air, grabbing them with telekinesis and pulling them down. The boar roared in pain as the spears rained down onto it, each stabbing in across its body.
Anisha held onto the damaged spike tighter as it began to thrash across the clearing, summoning a psionic axe and waiting for a stable moment to chop the spike free. He managed to get it in one swing, but the vibration and sound alerted the boar. It reared up, attempting to throw Anisha off.
He jumped from its back, now holding the spike in one hand. He held out his hand to the boar, firing off a psychokinetic pulse. Without much focus it wasn't very powerful, but it shoved the boar across the dirt; its hooves scraping the ground as it was.
Anisha finished the battle with two quick attacks after that. The first was a simple snap that caused the psionic spears to release the energy composing them, essentially turning into localized psionic hand grenades.
Given that the boar had roughly a dozen of them buried in the meat across its body, the blast was more than a little devastating; sending up a spray of dirt and charged lusus meat.
As the beast lumbered back and forth weakly, Anisha delivered the killing blow, throwing the spike he'd taken from it with a stronger burst of psychokinesis, the force behind it driving the spike through the boar's body like a ballista shot.
It remained standing for a few more moments, like the message that it was dead hadn't reached its muscles, and then it collapsed to the ground like a massive building with all its support beams blown out. Anisha suspected this would be enough training for the day.
It seemed his nymph like lusus agreed, as she was smiling down at him from the large branch she'd chosen to watch from. She would have stepped in the moment she thought her ward was in any real danger.
But she knew Anisha could handle it. Quite frankly, given her abilities to influence the actions of other lusii (the mindless ones with no wards at least), it was entirely possible that his lusus had lured in the boar beast as a sort of final test before he left for the academy.
She gave him a nod to show that he'd passed, then a mischievous grin as she pushed off the branch to show she intended to reward him. The elegant, fairy-like lusus hovered down, doing so psychically rather than with her wings, which were rarely in actual use.
She landed gracefully in front of her ward, standing tall over him; her sizeable chest very nearly on eye level with him.
Anisha supposed he'd locked out getting a lusus like this, not only being so keen on expressing her pride and affection, but also, ya know, bipedal and of troll-like shape, minus the horns.
She wore nothing, which for most lusii wouldn't have been weird, but for her it meant leaving her plump breasts in full view.
She'd never heard complaints, nor from her ward or any other trolls.
She brought him into a warm kiss, holding him with one hand as they floated back up to his hive to enjoy the last few hours before he left.
It wasn't easy to find the entrance to the ACA.
It was a combination of the cryptic clues he'd been sent combined with the deductive reasoning and heightened senses of how Anisha and his lusus.
After an hour of searching-which Anisha would later learn was actually the second fastest anyone had ever found it-the yellow blood flew through the rocky entrance that opened up into what was essentially an entire biome hidden from view by natural barriers, most prominently a massive fuck off mountain.
In the center was the large building of Anti-Caste Academy.
Anisha landed gracefully out front with his lusus, an action that evidently gave amusement to some of the other students who'd already arrived. In particular a tall purple blood girl.
Well, perhaps mentioning her being tall was irrelevant with her being a purple blood. But her size, and the almost gravitational size of her chest and hips, were hard not to notice.
She laughed openly at the sight of the gold blood being dropped off by his lusus like a wriggler attending first time classes. Anisha's lusus wasn't keen on her ward being made fun of. With a smirk, she simply brought Anisha into a warm, loving, even passionate kiss, her hands trailing down to give his rump a gentle, sensual squeeze before detaching.
Anisha turned back to the purple blood, who's jaw had dropped oven like it was on a busted hinge. He simply gave them a wink, and headed into the building as his lusus flew off. Once inside, Anisha found the building to be filled with dozens of other trolls.
The majority were low bloods unsurprisingly, but there was a surprising about of mid castes and even high bloods present. As he walked into the large atrium for the orientation, he felt a familiar presence approaching, and braced himself for an impact he knew was coming.
Urvona was very short, but she hit like a cannonball when going in for a tackle hug. Anisha managed not to get thrown off his feet this time, his arm moving down to catch her before she ended up dropping back to the ground.
The little olive blood girl grinned, hugging him close, "I thought you weren't gonna come!" He gave her a soft smile and a shrug, "Meh, wouldn't have been much fun back home with you off here. Figured I might as well see what kind of work's being done here."
A light green tint came to her cheeks at this, but her smile didn't waver. "It's gonna be great Sha, just you wait." She said.
Anisha nodded, hoping she was right. There had been rebellions in the past, some with overwhelming power. But they'd been crushed before reaching victory. It made it hard to have much hope that much would be different here.
But he supposed he wasn't allowed to complain if he didn't at least give it a try.
