Is it ever your choice when things go wrong? Or unbelievably fortunate for that matter of fact? Well... no. And it won't ever be. Ever. That, unless you have high placed friends. Like (y/n) for instance.
Out of pure blind luck, (y/n) ended up being friends with Koenma-sama the Prince of Afterlife. Needless to say, this only happened because of a fortunate mistake that took place 1500 years ago. And speaking of fortunate. Almost everyone knows Fortune as a simple 7-letter word.
Actually Fortune is a girl called Faith/ Luck, who, like your average, everyday teenager (don't forget time doesn't go that way to outer beings as well) is a very moody girl; and to top it off she's blonde. And yes, you've guessed it, blue eyed. And again, she is the ultimate source for all the blonde jokes that go around. (Humans were never smart enough to come out with them from the top of their heads, sorry...)
Faith, lives in the Reikai, in the same palace with King Enma and Prince of Afterlife Koenma-sama. And like any other being, or creature, she has physiological needs. It was because she had to take a piss, that on that day 1500 years ago somebody else fiddled with the Destiny Making Machine. (Yup, humans don't make their own destinies either. Sorry folks. The only thing humans are good at, are at messing stuff up, if anything.)
On that day 1500 years ago, Baby Prince Koenma-sama, was playing hide and go seek with his best friend, the blue baby ogre George. And since the palace of Reikai is such a big place, the only spot Koenma-sama ended up hiding in, was in Faith's Cabinet where she worked on the Destiny Making Machine. She wasn't in her post when the little toddler crawled in. And everyone knows how curious kids can be. Just imagine what Baby Koenma-sama's reaction was when he stepped into a room where a big ol' machine with a lot of pretty colored buttons was.
The kid's eyes went wide with amazement and immediately the sparks of mischievous ideas began to shine in his brown pools. While he waited for his friend to come find him he began pushing some buttons that were in his nearby reach, and pulling some leavers, and typing some numbers in the machine after which, his eyes fell on a Big Red Button, on the panel which was a little higher than he could reach. So, he looked around for a chair and Boom! there he found one out of the blue.
He pulled it over to the panel and got on it. Just as he was about to push the Big Red Button, in came Faith followed by George. They both gapped, and just as they were heading towards him, Baby Koenma-sama pushed the Big Red Button.
Now, you may all be wondering 'Ok, so he pushed a big red button. So what's wrong in that?' Well, first of all that button is sort of like 'Enter' on the keyboard. After pressing it, an application starts. The only difference being we have a button called 'Escape' or a little 'x' to close the application. For The Big Red Button, there weren't any type of abort actions. When it activated things were gonna happen the way you programmed them. And when the programmer was a toddler, well... stuff's just not gonna be the way it should (if we can even put it this way...)
And with what he did earlier (you know the inserting of numbers and other stuff) he managed to alter the destinies of 10 particular characters: Yusuke Urameshi's, Keiko Yukimura's, Kazuma Kuwabara's, Youko Kurama/ Shuuichi Minamino's, Hiei Jaganshi's, Yukina's, Botan's, Kuronue's, Genkai-sama's and (y/n)'s. Some of these folks were youkais and some were human.
All in all, what with Baby's Koenma-sama's fiddling, the former nine characters including him, were destined to meet up and make up the Yu Yu Hakusho Gang, as for the later... well... (y/n) ended up reading "The Big Red Button", and going home with a smile on their faces. Am I right?
