Messed Up

Just another typical day on the Upper East Side. The air smelled of traffic exhaust, the sidewalks as cementey as ever, no grass in sight, the weather hot and…listen, there' an argument. After all, it wouldn't be the Upper East Side without an argument. But who's fighting?

Nate stood with his arms crossed over his chest, watching Blair and Serena.

"You never listen!" Blair shouted at Serena.

"I never listen?" Serena shouted back, throwing her hands in the air. "I'm the one who always listens to you whine and complain about how my life sucks this and that!" Nate raises his eyebrows.

"You're the one who's always complaining! Blair, my life sucks, blah blah blah," Blair said. Nate frowned at Blair saying blah. That didn't sound like her. Time to intervene.

"Girls-"

"Stay out of this, Nate!" they both screamed at him. He stepped back and walked away. Girls would be girls.

"Nathaniel," Chuck Bass said, putting his arm around Nate's shoulders. "Don't you just love the smell of an argument?" Nate looked at him as they walked through Central Park.

"Where's the monkey?" he asked. Chuck shrugged him off.

"Dude, don't diss the monkey. He's cool!" he protested. Nate shrugged.

"It's freaky, Bass, really, really freaky. You talk to it, don't you find that strange?" Chuck was glaring at him.

"Go get stoned or something," he said before walking away. Nate shrugged and did as told.

Blair sighed and sat down in the empty Penthouses living room. She didn't need Serena. She would be fine on her own. She heard her phone buzz, but she didn't pick it up. She walked into the kitchen as she heard the elevator ding.

"Go away, Serena," she called. No answer. Blair sighed in frustration and walked out into the hallway and stopped. Nate stood there, his eyes glazed over. "Nate…what happened?" She walked over to him and expected his swollen eye and bruises and cuts.

"Nothing," he said, unable to feel the pain and really anything. Blair gave him a cool look.

"You need to stop getting high, Nate," she said. "Who beat you up?" Nate gently pushed her away.

"No one. I beat them up," he said, walking into the kitchen for a drink. Blair was annoyed that he thought he owned the place. She heard something shatter and sighed. "Oops." She walked into the kitchen to see a glass on the floor.

"That was my mom's crystal! She'll kill me!" she said. Nate looked at her lazily.

"Sorry," he said. She shoved him out of the way.

"Go home, Nate, and don't come back until you can actually feel," she said and after thinking, she slapped him across the face. Of course, his feelings weren't hurt.

"I can feel," he said. She glared at him.

"Go home, Nate," she said. Nate shrugged.

"Love yah," he said as he walked out. Blair sighed and looked at the mess. She would kill him for it later.

Jenny sat in the park. It was calm now that Serena and Blair were gone. But, Nate appeared. There went the calm. She sighed as he sat down next to her, she could smell the pot coming off of him.

"What?" she asked coolly. He looked at her and then out across the pot.

"I messed up," he said.
