It was during their sixth years's Christmas break that Remus finally gathered the courage to speak his feelings to Sirius. The two had the whole quarters to themselves, so it was also the perfect time.

"Sirius?"

"How can I help you my dear Moony?"

"Can you be serious for a moment?"

"Why I'm always Sirius." Even though he couldn't see Sirius' face in the night, he knew it bore a mischievous grin.

"I'm not joking. I need to say something."

"Oh."

"I well... uh... er... hm.. never mind." Remus' courage was lost as quick as it was gained.

"You alright Moony? What is it?"

"Nothing important."

"Oh." Remus thought he'd dodged a bullet, and started nodding off until Sirius whispered,

"Pleeeease. I really want to know. I can't stop thinking! Come on Moons' just lemme tell me what's on your mind." Remus' heart skipped a beat, but he decided there was no need to wait any longer.

He muttered, "I'm in love with you."

"What's that?"

"Padfoot, I love you." Obviously, Remus' meaning was mistaken as Sirius replied,

"Well, I love you too." Remus took another deep breath and decided to tell the truth.

"Sirius, I mean I love you as more than a best friend. I've always been more interested in wizards than witches, and I know you'll think I'm just a poof, but I've thought it through and it makes sense. You're the only one I can love and you're never out of my thoughts. I'd do anything for you, beyond what I'd do for James or Peter and I hope you'll understand and possibly love me too..."

Sirius swore his heart stopped beating at this point. It all made sense; Remus laughed at his jokes that were slightly overused (funny, but still overused), he'd look to Sirius for approval, he would comfort Sirius after breakups, and so much more. The problem was, it couldn't happen. Sirius didn't feel the same way that Remus did. He loved Moony, but as a friend and nothing more. He wasn't into guys, and he never would be. Despite his hate of the Blacks, he still considered himself one.. and Blacks were not homosexuals. This confession startled Sirius on a level that provoked his morals, and all he could do was sit there in shock.

"Good night, Remus."
