Just a little oneshot I wrote for my sister's sixteenth birthday 'cause she loves Shinji. Happy Birthday, sis!
December in Squad Five
Shinji Hirako woke one December morning wondering why the heck it was so cold in his room. Sure, the heating system in the squad five barrack wasn't exactly up to what he'd call par (by which definition everyone would be walking around in Hawaiian shirts and shorts), but it shouldn't be this cold. He shivered as he drew his comforter tighter around his body. As if to mock his efforts, a gust of cold air hit him in the face, almost as if…
…as if someone had left the window open.
Oh, no. Shinji immediately threw off the covers, stepped out of bed…
… and promptly slipped and cracked his head on a bedpost. Not only was the window open, but someone had covered the floor of his room with water, which had frozen overnight due to the absolutely freezing temperatures. And Shinji believed he knew exactly who the culprit was.
"Mayuki!" he shouted at the top of his lungs. "I am going to GET you for this!"
The blonde captain had just started to struggle to his feet when the door slid open (with some difficulty).
"Captain, what are you doing up so ear… Oh, my," Aizen said as he beheld the state of his captain's quarters and the man himself.
"Sosuke, do you have any idea where Mayuki might be?" Shinji said through gritted teeth as he got to his feet, only to fall again when attempting to retrieve his captain's haori.
Aizen's smile might have widened just slightly as his captain proceeded to push himself across the floor like a polar bear in order to reach his dressing table. "She and Hiyori ran outside just a couple of minutes ago. Why?"
"She's teamed up with Hiyori? I knew Snaggletooth was in on this!" Shinji yelled as he hoisted himself onto his feet once again.
"Actually, I believe it was all Mayuki's idea. Hiyori just helped her fetch supplies," Aizen offered.
"Ooh, she'll pay for this," Shinji muttered as he ran a comb through his hair.
"In her defense, sir, you did go a little overboard with the pepper in her closet," his lieutenant said.
"That was perfectly justified. In case you've forgotten, she dyed my shihakusho pink. Neon pink," Shinji complained.
And he promptly fell over again when he was hit in the face with a snowball.
"So you put pepper in all my clothes! I was sneezing for days while I cleaned that all out!" shouted a voice from the open window. Aizen looked over and saw a girl with shoulder-length hair, dyed dark blue, hanging on the window ledge.
"Mayuki! You little…," Shinji began and was silenced by another snowball to the face.
"Good morning, Mayuki. Your aim is getting quite good," Aizen greeted, smiling at the girl. She grinned back at him.
"Thanks!"
"Why, you…," Shinji growled, brushing snow from his face as he stood. Mayuki ducked her head out the window to call to someone behind her.
"Hey, Hiyori!"
To Shinji and Aizen's surprise, a rather large quantity of water came sailing through the window, splashing onto the ice-covered floor and making it even more treacherous.
"You evil little witches! I'll get you for this! OW!" Shinji shouted as a wooden bucket followed the deluge of water… only with a slight change in trajectory that brought it to a safe landing right smack in the middle of his forehead. This, of course, was followed up by another rather painful meeting with the floor.
Shinji sighed as the sound of laughter and two sets of running feet gradually faded as the two girls ran off to plan their next attack.
"…Sosuke?"
"Yes, Captain?"
"Could you do me a favor and close the window?"
Aizen looked down at his captain. Then at the open window. Then at the fifteen or so feet of extremely slippery ice that separated him and it.
"I don't think so, sir."
