~Eminence of the Sun~

He sat there cold and miserable. In his hand a dying red rose. As he sat against the wall his shadow reached out like a long silhouette along the road of the dimly lit ally way. The rain pelted down on his skin hiding the tears that silently fell. It was weird. You wouldn't guess this was him, but it was. Pain, anguish and misery. That wasn't him, but tonight ... it was. He was usually the one that inflicted these raw emotions, not the one that suffered and endured them. But he continued to wait, and he sat.

The moon looked down from the vacant cloud covered skies, its empathetic glow setting an entrancing mood ... almost. The sound of footsteps broke the rhythmic music of the rain and the soft cooing of the wind. He looked up, only to see her face. Gently closing his eyes he shook his head. This was not the way it was meant to be, but it was. Reality had finally caught up to him.

He exhaled after taking a deep breath and re-opened his eyes. She now stood in-front of him. Hand out stretched.

An offering.

An offering of comfort and solace.
Gathering the rest of his strength he accepted it. He smiled as he felt a sudden warmth over take him. A peace.

As he stood up, he left the vacant shell of his body behind. His spirit now one with the one whom had left him behind all those years ago.

"Why did you leave?" he whispered quietly. Her eyes searched warmly thorough his. She read his every thought and every emotion. The eyes are said to be the window to the soul, and she was seeing straight through to his.

A smile encroached upon her face as she was once again reminded of the familiarity of his thoughts and voice.

"Oh Chad," she whispered "I may have left, but I never left your side."

He smiled softly. Oh how she had missed that smile, and with that she looked forward as the moon's glow became that of the burning eminence of the sun. Gently she took his hand, and together they finally walked down the road of finality and into the light.
