Phil Coulson should have seen it coming.
After the making of the documentary of what happened in New York, the director of the documentary, Joss Whedon, asked Agent Coulson if he would agree to take up a T.V. show. Mr. Whedon explained that though he did murder Coulson's character in the documentary to make everything more dramatic, somehow it was leaked that he was still alive (reports say that Tony Stark had something to do with that) and people all over the world wanted him on a show, alive.
Director Fury encouraged the idea, saying it would be good publicity for S.H.I.E.L.D., so eventually, Coulson agreed. All he really had to do was consult with the actor, Clark Gregg, who looked remarkably like him. Coulson didn't admit it to anyone at S.H.I.E.L.D., but he really enjoyed consulting with Mr. Gregg. He was funny, but serious, just like Coulson himself. At times Coulson wondered if Mr. Gregg was his twin brother in another life.
Soon advertisements were up everywhere for the show "Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D." a reality T.V. show, or so it was called. On the Tuesday it premiered, Agent Coulson went through all of his desk work very quickly, ran some ideas by Director Fury, organized Clint and Natasha's mission reports, and was out by 7:30, heading to his quarters where he planned to relax and enjoy the show.
When he reached his room, he stopped, pulling out his gun. The door was wide open, and voices could be heard inside. Agent Coulson checked his watch. 15 minutes until the show aired. He stepped into the room and swung around to his left, nearly shooting the six people who were sprawled over his bed and chairs.
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner sat up at the top of the bed; Thor Odinson was stretched out at the foot of the bed, his feet wedged in between Tony and Bruce. Steve Rodgers sat in a chair with an empty one beside him that had a sign attached that read "Reserved For Phil." Agents Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton were laid out on the couch, Natasha laying on top of Clint (it wasn't official, but Tony was adamant that the two were dating). All of the Avengers in the room were wearing navy blue shirts that said "COULSON LIVES" with the S.H.I.E.L.D. symbol in the second 'O' of Coulson.
Agent Coulson laughed as they all yelled out, breaking his halfway believable serious face for them invading his room. Tony and Steve shoved him in his chair, then settled down as the program before the show cut to commercial for the last time.
"How'd you get in here?" he asked, then realized what a stupid question that was. Clint Barton smiled mischievously, then held up his lock kit. Bruce, Thor and Tony roared with laughter as Coulson stood up, confiscated Clint's kit, and sat back down, grinning.
"Everyone shut up, or I will duck tape all of your mouths closed and tie you to the piece of furniture you are currently sitting in," came Natasha's icy voice over the shouts of laughter as the S.H.I.E.L.D. symbol popped up on the screen. Everyone shared a few last grins, then settled in to watch Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
As the show was approved and continued on, the Tuesday night pile into Coulson's room became a tradition, and Phil Coulson looked forward to it every week.
