Concrete Angel
Abby Maitland parents were arguing and Abby was upstairs crying in the bathroom crawled up to the corner trying not to listen then she hits footsteps coming up the stairs and into the bathroom.
She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace
Abby woke up the very next morning, she went downstairs and she saw her mother who had a black-eye and Abby picked her school stuff up and left the house.
The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born
Abby went to school and the teachers and students look at her and wonder what goes on behind close doors. Abby wasn't very popular at school because of her parents.
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Abby walks home and does her home work and she looks at the time and notice her father will be home beating her mum. Abby would go upstairs and cry and crawl into a corner of any room.
Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late
Abby hears her father coming in and hears her mum screaming and then Abby crawls underneath the bed and cries and she sees her dad coming up the stairs.
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
Then Abby calls the police and arrest her father and finds her mother dead and she cries and screams noticing her father has killed her mother.
A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot
Abby stands by her mother grave and has tears coming down her face and she puts flowers down for her mother.
Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
Concrete angel
