Long Forgotten Jobs
Chapter 1
AN/this is my first story. Please don't hate.
Summary: What if it hadn't been love that made R save Julie? What if it was a long forgotten job?
Disclaimer- I do not own R or warm Bodies, the belong to Isaac Marion. If I did own it, R would definitely not love Julie.
R's POV
"Listen kid, these corpses are taking over and your new job is to protect my daughter. Understand?" General Grigio stated to me. Apparently, he wanted someone who could keep a low profile while protecting his daughter, Julie Grigio. That was my specialty. No one was ever sure of my age as I looked somewhere between maybe 16 to middle-ish 20's. I could easily pass as someone from high school or a full blown adult. I was also a highly trained body guard who went by the codename, R. "Will you take the job?" he asked. "Sure, why not?" I stated indifferently while shrugging. That was how I got my other nickname, Shrugger. That nickname however, was reserved for my best friend, Marcus, only. Anyone else, would get a punch to the throat and put on the ground in a second.
I was then told to look like a high school senior so I put on a red hoodie, a grey t-shirt, and worn out jeans. I was taken to the only functioning mall around, where Julie and her best friend, Nora, were. It didn't take long to find them and I discreetly followed them around. This went on for several days; they would go somewhere, I would follow, they would go home, I would follow. Every day, we did this, until they decided to go to a movie theater. I, of course, didn't like it at all. It was dark inside and hard to find a working exit but, what could I do, I had no say in what they did. I was to follow and keep Julie safe, which also meant keep Nora safe as the two never went anywhere without each other. The movie was about halfway over soon, or at least, I thought it was, I was paying no attention to the idiotic chick flick unfolding on the screen. Suddenly, there was a loud bang and the door to the theater burst open revealing about 20 corpses. They were nearing the crowd and that meant Julie and Nora as well.
There were screams all around me but I ignored them. I pulled out my handgun that was hidden inside my baggy sweatshirt. I started shooting at the heads of the corpses. Several other movie-goers were also pulling out their own handguns and aiming. However, 1 corpse was alluding being shot. He was heading straight for the 2 girls, and I was out of ammo.
I threw my gun to the side and ran in front of the 2 girls, I was intent on doing my job. I threw the corpse to the side as it lounged at us and I grabbed my hunting knife from my pant leg. The corpse got up and went straight for me. Good, come at me, leave them alone. I thought to myself. I've never failed a job and I was not about to let these 2 innocent girls die because a stupid, non-thinking, rotting corpse decided it got hungry and wanted to get a horde of its thoughtless friends together and go to the movies. The corpse lounged at me again and this time it bit my now exposed arm. I grabbed my arm back and plunged my knife into its head. Bye loser. I looked at my arm and noticed the bite mark was bleeding heavily. It was official, I was infected. I ran towards the exit desperate to get away. Even now as I was dying, I was intent on succeeding my now final mission. I mean, if I was going to die, I was gonna succeed while doing it. Failure was never an option for me and it wasn't about to become one. I ran as hard and as fast as I could before finally blacking out on the sidewalk.
