~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She's a mystery to him. A year of knowledge could never have been enough, not to uncover all she hides. Doggett opens the door to find her shifting in her place outside, hand raised to knock. Hesitation across her face.
"I heard your car."
"I was contemplating leaving."
"Don't," he says. She looks at him, surprised. "Come on in. I'll make you a coffee."
Scully doesn't tell him why she's there, and he doesn't ask. Instead she asks him questions. About Luke, only they don't say that name. She fears for her child, and he doesn't know what he can say to reassure her.
But he is there for her. Scully feels it, senses Doggett's presence hovering near her even when she's turned away. He touches her shoulder as she speaks and her eyes close. Don't let me leave, she wants to tell him. Let me stay.
Although his warmth is comforting, she pulls away.
