The first few drabbles of the New Year! And I still suck at coming up with titles! I also completely ignored a bit of timeline in DH. Enjoy!

A Gift Given Too Soon.

"Ron, come here."

"Sure," Ron replied, stepping into the study.

"What. Is. That?" Harry said slowly, pointing to the birdcage resting on top of his desk.

"That's your new owl."

"Are you mental?" Harry started his voice breaking as he continued. "It hasn't even been a month since… and all ready… you're trying to replace her!"

"Replace her? I wasn't-"

"Get rid of it." Harry pleaded turning his back to the owl.

"All right, I'll take her back in the morning." He stood behind Harry and wrapped him in a hug.

"Do it now." Harry said, walking away from Ron.

Magic Can't Fix Everything.

Ron followed Harry to their bedroom, pausing to lean against the doorway while Harry sat on the bed.

"You think I'd have learned by now."

"Learned what?"

"My dad once told me 'Magic can't fix everything.' My pet turtle, Turtle, had died. I didn't understand death, I was young, and thought he was just broken, so I asked my dad if I could use his wand to fix him. He said 'No.' when I asked why he said, 'Magic can't fix everything.' "

"I don't understand-"

"I wasn't trying to replace Hedwig, Harry. I was trying to fix your heart."

Apology Accepted.

"What makes you think you had to fix it?"

"You, Harry, you made me think it. I don't like seeing you unhappy and I thought you needed a companion or something..." Ron trailed off.

"I'm sorry." They both said at the same time.

"It was wrong of me to bring her here." Ron admitted.

"Yes, it was, but I'm glad you did. She's a lovely owl." Harry said, smiling weakly. "Is she?"

"Yeah, she's still downstairs, would you like to go met her?"

Harry nodded, already getting to his feet.

"So you had a turtle named Turtle? Original."

"Shut up."
