Alone

Gone. They're all gone. Jim was first, dammit; I should have tried to make him quit. Lung cancer is not the way for a man like Gordon to die. I can still remember the last night I saw Jim, he looked horrible, but he still managed to smile when I came through his window. I talked to him for an hour, and then I pulled off my mask. I'll never forget what he said to me, he said, "You didn't have to do that, I've known it was you for years. Good bye Bruce, take care of Barbara for me."
Babs was next, the Joker returned to finish his job. It was too easy for him, he followed one of her agents to the to her apartment, and shot him, put his clothes on and killed her. At least the Joker's dead, no it's still not right.
I should have seen it coming; the Joker in Blüdhaven and Dick was a cop, with a gun. Dick could never forget what the Joker did to Babs, and now the Joker had his son. Dick was one of the first officers on the scene; he knew how the Joker worked. He chased Joker to the back of the warehouse where he was hiding the hostages. One shot, to the mastiff, behind the ear, dead instantly. No one knew, not even I, that Joker had poison gas rigged to release when his heart stopped. They all died Dick, his son, and seven other children.
The job was too risky, I didn't want any more deaths, I told Tim to quit, and he didn't want to. I was forced to deny him access to the cave, he left and Cassandra went with him. Three months later, an article in the newspaper read "ROBIN AND BATWOMAN KILLED WHILE SAVING BOMB VICTIMS." They never knew about the third bomb, rigged to explode 30 minutes after the first two.
Alfred, was the last to go, doesn't surprise me he was too stubborn to die, like me. His lat words before he died were, "I love you, son." He called me "son" and he meant it, Alfred was the best father anyone could have had, and I never realized he was mine. Now I was alone.
After the new security systems were installed in Arkham, I went after all the main criminals one by one. They never got out. Then I went after every mob bosses and gang leaders, most got life or death. More criminals sprang up, but soon Gotham PD, became just as and then better than I was. But I could never stop being Batman, I still am.
I'm alone now and I'm tired... Mom! Dad?! Is that you? ... I'll come with you...
