um, hi! this is my first fanfic, so I'd really appreciate nice reviews! please don't be too harsh on me :) pleeeeease review!

On a crisp autumn morning, the red-and-golden leaves spiraling around the city, the Training School in Rustboro was abuzz with life and conversation. Younger children skipped rope and shrieked gleefully, running about the playground. Teenagers giggled and gossiped. And the teachers made sure they each had enough aspirin and coffee to get them through the year.

The bell rang, loud and shrill, and the children filed into the classrooms, grumbling unhappily that their fun was already over. The entire school fell silent as the teachers ran to their classes and began taking attendance, except for one class at the very end of the corridor. 11th grade. This class continued to shriek and hoot, fling spitballs at each other, and generally create chaos, despite the fact that their teacher, Mrs. Dupont, was yelling at them. A tall teen in the front row with spiky, silvery hair and a neatly pressed suit was the only person sitting quietly. His name, for future reference, was Steven Stone.

Said boy felt a sticky wetness at the back of his neck, and he scowled deeply, twisting around to glare at the culprit. His friend Archie, a boy with blue hair and eyes, grinned smugly and stuck his tongue out at him. "What is your problem?" Steven hissed irritably. Archie drew breath to respond, but then his eyes focused on something behind him, and his jaw fell slack as deafening silence fell over the class.

Steven slowly swiveled around in his seat to stare at a girl their age standing before him, and he immediately understood why the class had suddenly fallen silent. The girl was, in a word, gorgeous. Dark brown hair was cropped short, bangs falling over her sharp golden-brown eyes. Her lips were painted blood red, but it didn't take away from her youthful appearance, her skin smooth and porcelain. She was tall and clad in a black blazer and trousers, a briefcase in her hand instead of a backpack, and held herself with a sort of grace, a sort of pride Steven hadn't seen on anyone before.

"Ah—you must be the foreign exchange, from Kanto, aren't you, dear?" Mrs. Dupont said quickly, laying her hand on the girl's shoulder and smiling at her. The girl nodded wordlessly and continued staring at the class. Her golden eyes locked briefly onto Steven's, and his breath caught, before they continued onto the next person. He found himself feeling oddly disappointed.

"Well," the teacher continued, "We welcome you to our class, dear." She raised her hand, gestured to Steven's desk. "There's an empty seat there, on the front bench. Why don't you sit down?" The class continued gaping as the girl nodded and made her way to him, sitting down beside him and laying her briefcase neatly on the desk, before folding her hands in her lap.

"Attendance!" Mrs. Dupont yelled, and the murmurs of conversation started up again as she called out the student's names. Amidst the discussion, Steven turned to his new partner and stuck his hand out. "Uh, hi," he stammered. "I'm—"

"Steven Stone," the girl finished, speaking for the first time. Her voice was low. "I know. We all know." She reached out and slipped her hand into his. Steven could feel the roughness of her skin, and though her hand was much smaller than his, her grasp was firm. "I'm Fachtna. It's a pleasure to finally meet you."
