Quiet Moments

By: M14Mouse

Summary: Mary didn't want to interrupt them. It wasn't her place but she couldn't help but listen to her boys.

Disclaimer: Don't own them.

Mary didn't want to interrupt.

Her hand hovered over the door knob. She was sure that her sons wouldn't mind if she came in. They would probably welcome her but the moment that they got back. Dean only had eyes to fixing up his brother. She watched Dean checked him over. He was making sure that he was alright even if the angel did something to him that heal a great deal of Sam's wounds. She could understand it. She did the same thing when she was a hunter. This was different.

She didn't know them. Who was she to get involved?

Especially since it look like that Dean has done it a million times before.

A part of her…also didn't know how. This wasn't her heaven anymore. John was gone and her boys weren't little kids anymore. She couldn't just slap a band aid on and give them a hug. They were grown men. Brave, proud men.

She still wanted to be close. She still wanted to know and make sure that he was alright. That they were alright.

"I'm good, Dean," Sam's voice said from behind the door.

"Sammy, you say that one more time…." Dean said.

"Ouch!"

Dean snorted.

"Dude…."

"The Beetles rejects put you through hell for a couple of names."

"They are Men of Letters."

"Beetles rejects."

Sam laughed then coughed a little.

"Dude…don't undo all my hard work."

"I was tortured by the devil himself, Dean. This is nothing."

"Sammy, don't joke about that…ever."

She heard some moving around. She fought the impulse to walk inside and wrap her arms around her boys.

She didn't.

She just stood there and listen.

"I wasn't joking, Dean. Just stating a fact."

"Well…you shouldn't have gone through it. I should have been there."

"You were there as well."

"Yes…I was. Not enough to stop this. Me and that lady are going to have a long talk when we meet up again,' Dean said.

"Think we will?" Sam asked.

"Like every little town has a crappy motel, doesn't it? Then the answer is yes."

She heard some more moving before Sam spoke again.

"So, how are you and mom?"

"Awkward. Very awkward. I had some awkward moments in my life but this ranks pretty high," Dean said.

"Even higher than that time with Lucy Mays?" Sam said.

"Okay…about equal."

"We just give her time. She has been dragged out of heaven. Our experience may have sucked but hers probably not so much."

"I know…I know…"

"We are going to need time too."

"With everything, do you think that we will?"

"God, I hope so. I like to get to know her beside stories and old pictures"

Dean laughed softly. She moved away from the door. She didn't need to hear this. Of course, she was curious on what her boys thought of her. But not, right now…it still felt so strange.

One day…maybe. They could do this.

But right now, she was proud of her boys.

They have grown into smart, caring, and brave men.

Most of all, they were still family.
