Chapter One

Death and the Soldier

He couldn't believe what just happened. Joining the military had been one of his goals in life. He was proud to serve his nation. But now. In a single instant, those thoughts took a turn for the worst. His team had corner the suspects' into one of the buildings up ahead.

The sounds of gunshots filled the atmosphere. After that, all he felt was a rush of pain in his abdomen. He had dropped his weapon and collapsed onto his back. He vaguely remember the image of his team members rushing around to his side and calling his surname. Some kept firing at the source of the shots.

One of his team members knelt to his side while others went to secure the building. He just barely discerned the words "Stay awake. Don't close your eyes-"

He did not know how bad the wound had been, but evidently, it was worse that he could imagine. The soldier contacted HQ and hastly reported "This is E-5 requesting immediate medical assistance. Repeat, 10-5!" After giving their location, Sergeant Blake applied pressure onto his wound. "Come on, Aiden! Stay with me!" Aiden. That was his name. Aiden Black. An American soldier. That had been his job for the last four years. He had but two more years before he could- well, it didn't matter now. This would soon be his last mission.

Aiden struggled to respond via speech or movement, and he found himself unable to do much of anything at that moment. He could not even breathe properly. His senses gradually began to fade. All he could make out was a strange humming noise that blocked out all other sounds. Then, his vision impaired. Everything around him seemed to get darker and darker. It was as though he was beginning to fall asleep. All turned to nothingness.

It was all replaced by light. A very peculiar sensation hit him.

Aiden felt as though he was in a body of water, yet he was not drowning. He also felt as though he was engulfed in an bubble of some kind, a bright light shines in front of him once again. He had a strange desire to swing toward that light. But, he found himself unable to move. However, that did not stop him from reaching the light. Somehow, he was moving, anyway. He felt as though he was been push toward the light by some unseen, and unexplained force. Progress was very slow, but it was consistent.

Finally, he reached the light and exited the bubble. Upon his departure, he noticed he had been holding his breath. He let out a sharp gasp to take in some oxygen, and an ear-piercing and squeezing sound emerged from his lips. He abruptly felt large hands take ahold of him, and he was lifted into the sky.

There was a momentary lapse of pain on his arse-cheek, someone had spanked him. He cried. The pain had felt like a truck hitting him, but it quickly faded away. Aiden soon realized he was naked. Luckily, he did not stay that way for long. He was swiftly wrapped up in a white blanket by the hands that had picked him up. Once he was securely wrapped up, he heard a feminine voice announce "Is a boy." in Japanese. While he was been transferred to another pair of hands, Aiden was confused about his whereabouts. Why was he in Japan all of a sudden? He had learned the language during his military training.

Aiden found himself face-to-face with a late 20's early 30's man. The man was tall, strong build, and funny looking, but he had warm hand's. He appeared to be smiling with pride. "My boy, my first born!" The man said crying out with happiness in his tone. Apparently, Aiden was either in the land of giants or he was a baby. That alone was remarkable. But the fact that he was aware of this ...that was disturbing. Was he supposed to remember his previous life and his name if this was some sort of reincarnation? Was this a mistake? A glitch? If not, somebody had a lot of explaining to do.

As his new father held him, he took note of his surroundings. The blurriness finally stopped which was another odd occurrence since most babies don't open their eyes this soon. Aiden saw three other people in the room. One of them was a young woman lying on a bed. She had long orange hair. Obviously, his new mother. Another man and another woman were tending to her. The woman must had been a nurse. The man may have been a doctor, but their clothes were not American. He really was in Japan.

"He has your looks," the father remarked.

"You don't need to tell me that," the mother mumbled. She looked exhausted. The father looked to the man that appeared to be a doctor, as though he was expecting some news from him. The man grinned and proclaimed "Your wife is doing well, Mr. Kurosaki." The father nodded and declared "Can we have the room?" Aiden found the last name funny, it reminded him of a cartoon character that he used to watch as a teenager.

"Yes, of course." The doctor said politely. He and the nurse left the room. The father carried his son over to the bed and sat down next to his wife. She moved closer to her husband and smiled down at their newborn child. "Welcome to the family, little one," the mother murmured softly. Aiden had believed in reincarnation in his past life, but he wasn't a hundred percent sure that it was real. He had admitted that reincarnation may have been possible, but he believed more that once you die, that was it, there was nothing, a black pitch void. Surely, he wasn't a religious person either. He joined the military to kill, that he knew, and what consequences would that had bring him once he passes on.

His father turned to his mother and asked, "Have you decided on a name, love?"

"Yes," his mother replied picking him up in her hands, "He shall be Ichigo. Kurosaki Ichigo, our little strawberry." The fact that he had the same name as one of his favorite anime characters in his past life was bizarre and concerned him a little. He started to remember the character, Ichigo Kurosaki, as he called him. Calling someone in Japan by their name backwards was wrong, but he didn't care. It was a character of the most universally despised series among the anime community on the internet. The name belong to the teenager ...he who was born of all things fused into one.

This particular boy was from Aiden's favorite anime franchise despised the growing hate against it. It had started as a manga series in Japan, and it was made into a TV show, as well, but that was never finished. He died without getting to see the last arc animated sadly. He had read all the extra novels and seen all the filler episodes too. There were so many character's that it was nearly impossible for the author to stablish a solid backstory for all of them in the manga format and that was one of the reasons for the novels existence.

But Ichigo Kurosaki was a forgettable character for all the wrong reasons. Aiden was beyond shocked. This had to be a dream. A lucid dream. He must have gone into a comma after he was shot. This was just a fantasy created by his own mind until he recovered. Yes. Let's go with that, he thought.

That was what he told himself at first. To keep the anxiety in check. Did babies even suffer from anxiety? He couldn't remember his own birth, so he wouldn't know. As time went on, he began to feel less and less sure that a dream could fit the bill, but he decided to play along and may as well see how it all ends.

...

Nothing very notable happened over the next few years. However, his mother gave birth again. Aiden was happy when his parents gave him the news. They assumed it was because he was looking forward to being a brother. Unknown to them, the true reason for his joy was because he knew that Kurosaki Ichigo had two twin-sisters. He couldn't wait to meet them.

A few months after Yuzu and Karin were born, Aiden who became an older sibling started his physical training and joined a karate dojo where he met Tatsuki. "Can we stay a little longer?" Aiden found out that learning Japanese wasn't that hard. He already knew the language, but always struggled with writing the kanji in his past life. The clock on the wall was marking the time of the most unfortunate event in Ichigo's life. Aiden had already taken affection for his new mother and very soon he would have to part-ways with her.

His mother approached and crouched in front of Aiden with her beautiful smile that would soon leave this world "Oh, honey, we have to get home, your father and your two sisters are waiting for us." Aiden nodded as a tear came out "Right, let's go home." He closed his eyes and smiled as if there was no tomorrow. Both were walking along the river. The rain had not stopped and it was getting stronger. He was holding her mother's hand to protect her from the rain when he saw a little girl by the river.

Aiden reacted with a strong grab on her mother's hand, to which she looked towards the river "That little girl has to be cold- I will give her my umbrella." Aiden swallowed and did not object or he would have to explain himself to her. Masaki Kurosaki approached the girl without knowing the true danger of the illusive power of the Hollow which Aiden knew was invisible near here. He still could not see spirits, but apparently his mother who was a Quincy could not see the Hollow either.

Aiden, who was only nine years old, stayed away from her, across the street, waiting for her to come back. He would not put her in danger or himself since he was about to change the future. Masaki touched the shoulder of the girl, who smiled back at her and when the Hollow's fur became visible it try to attack a Masaki who was paralyzed with the worrying safety of her son.

Aiden thought to keep quiet and observe the movements of his mother which had blocked the attack of Grand Fisher with her forearm which was shining these blue patterns on her skin. Blut Vene thought Aiden quickly. "Screw you!" The hollow shouted trying to take a bite from Masaki's shoulder. She was too quick for him and summoned a small one-handed bow that had solidified from energy to drive it into the mouth of the hollow.

A ray of light fell on Masaki. Aiden could not see what was happening but he deducted a lot from his experience and knowledge of the series when his mother fell backwards. Auswählen. The Hollow had jumped back to avoid the arrow when he realized that she fell to the floor weakened. He laughed out loud, "That was close. To bad for you." He fired back his fur towards Masaki to try to pierce her flesh when they were stopped in a solid wall of energy.

"Hello, Mrs. Kurosaki." said the voice of a very kind man with a hat that hide his face. "K-Kisuke-" His mother said weakly. Which assured Ichigo that he could run into his mother's arms again. "Ichigo!" She hugged him with forces she did not have as she watched the man with the cane. He smiled at the sight. He came. He was here, thought Aiden even thu he couldn't see him. Even when being an adult in mind, his body sometimes made him behave like a child, which was not that different from how he behaved in his past life. Aiden shared Isshin's childish behavior sometimes in his past.

"You're safe now mom." Aiden said understanding that she would think that he would protect her as always, but of course he meant that Urahara was here. The man looked at Ichigo worried when he said it. He clearly knew that the child could not see him. Not because he was wearing a cloak with a spell to make himself invisible to spiritual aware people but that the boy didn't reacted to his presence, nor in the past, a few weeks ago he saw the little boy approach his store and leave a note on the front door.

The note when opening it said the coordinates of this place, and the day at nightfall. But the words were from a child's handwriting. How did he deduce such an event? Kisuke Urahara wondered before turning to the Hollow and stopping his massive body with one hand. "Oh, I forgot about you." With the other hand slashed the Hollow in two with his sword, cleansing his soul.

Aiden knew very well that he would only give his mother a couple of days, months or years to which the silver in her heart would finally kill her because of the effects of the selection of the King's light. But Aiden was happy to know that he had the power to change the future.
