I do not own Higher Ground, or the characters that go with it, I just like to play with them sometimes! :) This is my first fanfic posted on Fanfiction.net so I'm sorry if i did it wrong or something like that.
So here it is! Review...

Baby Mine

"I'm so nervous Peter" Ezra said to the man waiting sitting on the bench beside him.
"I know." he replied watching the townspeople walk by in the park.

It was a weekend so the park was full of people, with their children and pets. This was where Ezra would meet her. The one he'd waited his whole life to meet. His birthmother.
"I wonder why she wanted to meet me here?" he asked Peter.
"I don't know, maybe it wouldn't be so formal?"
"She's weird, I like that." He said giving a nervous laugh.

Peter smiled and watched an old lady feed the ducks. They waited some more.
"What time is it?" Ezra asked. She was supposed to be here at four.
Peter looked at his watch, it read 3:50, where was she?
"Three thirty" he lied, and Ezra relaxed a little.

They waited, sitting on the same bench, watching the people come and go.
Peter watched Ezra sit up straight up and look presentable whenever a woman walked by. He sighed and looked at his watch again, it was already 4:30, and he knew she wasn't coming.
"What time is it?" Ezra asked gazing out into the thinning crowd of people in the park, all going home for dinner.
"Four thirty" he said, as Ezra's head swiveled around to look at him.
"I knew she wasn't coming," he said trying not to sound disappointed. "I knew it"
"No you didn't" Peter said.
"I know why she wanted to meet in a park." He paused "So that if she didn't like what she saw she could walk right by without us noticing" he said his voice cracking.
"She'll be here, lets give her another half hour." He said patting the boy's knee.
"Fine" he said frowning and folding his arms.

A half hour later, she still hadn't shown up. Peter stood up without saying a word, Ezra followed. They left the bench, each lost in their own thoughts.
"I don't mind Peter," Ezra said out of the blue "I'm used to it" he said
"To what?" he asked puzzled
"Not being wanted. I don't really need her anyway, right?"
"You'll tell yourself that Ezra, but its not the truth, and you know it"
Ezra kicked a rock at his feet as they walked along the path. "Maybe, but I've gotten along without her fine so far"
"You have," he said putting an arm around him as they walked.
"But it would have been nice" he looked up at Peter "to see her, you know?"
"I know" and they walked on.

A woman with curly brown hair and blue eyes sat on a bench close to the path, listening to the two people as they passed.
After they had passed, she smiled contently and sighed to herself, a tear falling from her eye, rolling down her cheek. Her little baby had grown up. Maybe someday she'd be strong enough. Not now, but soon.
