Pirates of the Caribbean: El islote de la perdición

Opening prologue:

For nearly 4 centuries, the Old World expanded itself into new and vast territories in search for wealth, escape from persecution and so on to establish a new life. The wild and tameless seas were becoming a haven for sailors who became buccaneers. The Kingdom of Spain had already amounted its riches in its valuable colonies. England was competing for their trade and wealth since then along with other European countries. All of the Caribbean attracted many who wanted to conquer its possessions. Another word could describe what they were. One word: pirate.

Chapter 1

On a fast growing, populated little island, lived a girl named Paloma. She used to be just an ordinary girl on the farm where she could watch the coffee plantations as well as cane cutters to process them for sugar while she played. Petite framed in height but curvy, she had honey eyes, creamy tanned skin and a long cascade of dark brown hair. The times when she would enjoy the beauty of the green mountains, red flowers and wildlife were the only joyful memories this girl had. Just 3 years after a heroic defense near a fort in Arecibo, Paloma's family had to move into town for reasons she couldn't understand yet. It was near La Isla de San Juan. A deadly illness soon struck her milician father. After he died, Paloma's mother had no other choice to sustain herself. The obscure corner in an alley path where a tavern stood was the only chance Adela had to feed her daughter. The place was run by Mama Reina, who took over after she was widowed. She was corpulent, dark skinned and middle aged. Townsfolk would only know her overbearing nature but no one had the knowledge of her wit, only some passing pirates who came for a drink in there. Life on the cobblestone streets toughened the country girl as she delved into her mischief, hanging out with boys her age at the "Mercado" and beginning her pickpocket career as an initiation. Among them, she befriended one. His name was Juanito Sanchez. The orphan was slender, black haired, wore an old jerkin and owned a green parrot. An "Amazona vittata" or local parrot who talked unlike the rest of his kind. Sanchez became friends with the girl after he stood by her to avoid being arrested by the guards of the fort. At night they would wander around the "Devil's Guerite", a sentry box who had a mystery surrounding it. "We could disappear and sail away!" they both joked until the two spotted a warship battling another in the shadows. "I think we should leave." said Juanito and his parrot squawked. "Shhhh quiet". The teens stealthily moved away from the guerite and headed back into the neighborhood.

Just when Paloma returned to "The Goat's Tail", the tavern where she lives, a devastating news shattered her. Adela, her mother never returned back to work. The owner said she was last seen outside with an unknown sailor. Now Paloma was under Mama Reina's supervision and obligated to work.
