Pairing: Sesshoumaru/Kagome. Don't like, don't read

~Saying 'I Love You'~

Kagome gasped out a cry of her lover's name, running towards the fallen silver-haired form with her hair and pale pink sundress flying out behind her. The man was shirtless, clearly showing the multiple slashes across his chest. She fell to her knees beside him, her hands hovering worriedly as she called his name frantically. She had never told him that she loved him, even though they were mated…please let him still be alive!

He groaned, sending a surge of relief through Kagome. He was alive!

"Sesshoumaru?" she whispered worriedly, placing a delicate hand on his cheek gently. "What happened?"

"Kagome?" the taiyoukai groaned quietly, blinking golden eyes open. He was met with the sight of Kagome's brilliant cerulean orbs, filled with tears. "Do not cry." Kagome gave a shaky laugh, moving her hand to rest just above the worst of the slashes. "Do not bother, Kagome. This Sesshoumaru will heal."

"Not that quickly," she protested, tears dripping from her lashes as she blinked. "I want to know who did this to you," she said firmly as she focused her healing ki on her lover's injuries. Sesshoumaru gave a hiss as the pink energy stung his flesh even while it healed him. "Please, Maru, don't hide this from me," she pleaded, the pink glow fading as the gashes healed to vivid pink scars. Sesshoumaru pushed himself up to a sitting position, drawing Kagome onto his lap and burying his face in her hair.

"You will leave me should I speak." Kagome had never heard her lover – her mate – sound so unsure or afraid.

"Sesshoumaru…"

"You will leave me should I speak," the taiyoukai repeated, and Kagome lifted her face to kiss him deeply.

"I will not leave you," she promised, blue eyes intently focused on his golden ones. "You are my mate, and I am yours. I will not leave you." Sesshoumaru stared at her for a very long moment, then closed his eyes and turned his head away. "Maru…"

"It was Inuyasha, Kagome." Kagome sucked in a sharp breath. How could he? How could Inuyasha really do this? The shock and sadness changed to anger swiftly, and Kagome didn't register her mate's slump or flinch.

"How could he?" she raged, shocking her mate and making him stare at her. "I can't believe that…that…that…argh! I'm going to 'sit' him so hard he won't wake up for a month!"

"Kagome?"

"I told you, Maru, I won't leave you. I am going to make Inuyasha wish he'd never been released from the Goshinboku," she fumed, then settled and stood, grasping hold of Sesshoumaru's hands when he stood also. She pushed up on her toes, brushing her lips against Sesshoumaru's softly. "I love you, Sesshoumaru. Don't ever, ever doubt that." She kissed him again. "I've never said it before, but it's true. I love you." A soft smile – usually reserved for Rin (and now Kagome) – found its way onto Sesshoumaru's aristocratic features, and he pressed his forehead gently against hers.

"And I you, Kagome."

Saying 'I love you' wasn't too late after all.
