Comfort Creature
Ariadne was never one to sleep with a stuffed animal.
She didn't care if it was a doll or a toy, animal or person- she didn't like the feeling of another body beside her. When she was a little girl, the architect had seen her friends pull out their comfort creatures from their overnight bags, often hugging them close throughout the night. Once they had realized her lack of a sleeping companion, her peers offered to get her one, but she refused- Ariadne would rather sleep alone, enjoying her peaceful slumber by herself. (Besides, her habit of tossing and turning at night would have knocked the stuffed animals off the bed, so it really was best that she refrain from any midnight cuddle sessions.)
But once Ariadne moved in with Arthur, her 'no cuddling' rule was thrown out the window. Now, she loved the feeling of a warm body next to her, the point man's muscular chest pressed against her nightgown. Her bed sheets smelled distinctly of Arthur, the familiar scent of his shampoo and aftershave clinging to the soft fabric, and Ariadne tended to sleep better when wrapped in his arms.
She dreaded waking to find him up already, the imprint of his body still visible on the mattress. The bed felt wider, bigger, colder without him there, and she felt all alone, as if she was still a young college student that no one cared about.
But before she could shed a tear, Arthur would be back in the bedroom, fresh from a shower or a morning jog. And he would smile and kiss her on the cheek, before telling her to get out of bed and join him in the kitchen for breakfast.
And even though she would want to stay in bed for just a couple more minutes, Ariadne always obliged, lifting off her bed covers and padding out of her bedroom.
Because she knew that she could return to bed later that night, and the night after that, and the night after that.
And her point man, her comfort creature, her Arthur would always be there to help her sleep.
Sorry it's so short- Like I said, I'm SUPER tired... *yawn* And now, TO BED!
